BASIC FUNCTION

The statements below describe the general nature of the work being performed by Regional Safety Manager and are not a complete list of all responsibilities, duties, and skills required. The Regional Safety Manager may perform other duties as assigned. The Regional Safety Manager is expected to abide by and enforce the Code of Federal Regulations and the policies and procedures of the company, including regular and prompt attendance, production requirements, timely and efficient completion of tasks and responsibilities, as well as promoting teamwork and cooperative effort.

 

SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Position may involve performing other duties as required, which may not be mentioned below. Specific functions may change from time to time.

  • Responsible for participating in the design of companywide programs to reduce commercial motor vehicle crashes, injuries and maintaining company’s compliance with all government regulatory agencies, evaluating procedures to identify and prevent unsafe conditions in the workplace, tracking safety and compliance related files and data for reporting to management.
  • Ensure all incidents and injuries are investigated to root cause in a timely manner, position will report to the VP of Safety.
  • Instruct all DOT and OSHA required courses.
  • Instruct drivers on defensive driving techniques.
  • Audit and precursory reviews of driver’s logs, fuel tickets, time sheets and all supporting documents necessary.
  • Perform in-house OSHA inspections at company facilities located within your area of responsibility.
  • Required to perform traffic observations and be able to evaluate any traffic violations noted.
  • Required to instruct safety awareness meetings at each company location within your area per discretion of the company.
  • Investigate crashes and injuries. Investigations should seek to prevent recurrence by determining causes, protect against unwarranted or excessive financial liability and provide an adequate basis for driver discipline or remedial training.
  • Counsel drivers on log violations and re-educate to prevent future infractions. Communicate, support, and assist management in your area regarding all matters of compliance and safety.
  • Responsible for ensuring all drivers log their hours of service in compliance with federal guidelines and company policy.
  • Establish and implement policies and procedures for the Compliance and Security Departments.
  • Oversee, conduct, and record OSHA internal inspections.
  • Create presentations for monthly online safety training.
  • Create and distribute Samsara messages regarding safety, compliance, and security matters.
  • Liaison with federal, state, and local agencies.
  • Oversee investigations of reported thefts of company property.
  • Advise operations of high crime areas in North America
  • Works under general guidance and discretion of the VP of Safety.
  • Work is performed with considerable latitude for independent judgment and actions.
  • Participate in trade industry associations when necessary.
  • Provide technical consultative support for management and front-line supervisors.
  • Provide technical resource, direction and education in the compliance and security fields.
  • Assist the VP Of Safety in budgeting and strategic planning for the compliance and security departments.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

  • Ability to lift and/or move up to 75 pounds as required.

 

WORKING ENVIRONMENT AND CONDITIONS

  • Supervise and manage those activities necessary to protect the health and safety of employees and the general public, to safeguard the assets of the company, and to ensure compliance with governmental regulation, as well as the company policies and programs, which may include the following:
  • Hazard Identification
  • Conducting or Coordinating Inspections
  • Conduct or Coordinate Observations
  • Identify, monitor and ensure compliance with regulations (OSHA, DOT, EPA      and Monitor federal, state and local legislation, which might affect job duties)
  • Communicate safety data to management for identifying possible trends.
  • Implement Repeater Management program, including periodic reporting to regional management.
  • Maintain Occupational Health Standards
  • Conduct or Oversee Safety Review Committee Meetings.
  • Report accidents and/or claims to appropriate regulatory agencies if required.
  • Conduct corrective action pursuant to Repeater Management Program
  • Ensure coordination with applicable regulatory agencies.

 

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING

  • Minimum of 3 years in the transportation compliance and safety field preferred.
  • Familiar with federal and state environmental laws and can work with all branches of enforcement agencies.
  • Extensive familiarity with Federal Regulations.
  • Extensive knowledge of federal, state, and local regulations and reporting procedures.
  • Extensive familiarity with OSHA. Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong leadership profile
  • Prepare clear and comprehensive reports.
  • React quickly and calmly in emergencies.
  • Team player.
  • Highly organized and ability to adapt quickly to changing priorities.
