IT-Administrator II-IBM I Administrator

The ideal candidate for the System Administrator II – IBM I Administrator is responsible for development, implementation, and maintenance of all IBM I Power Systems. They will perform daily system monitoring, verifying the integrity and availability of all system hardware and server resources. The ideal candidate is someone who has a passion for IBM I systems and is willing to learn new technologies, concepts, and best practices. This candidate should also be someone who can work independently and is a self-motivated contributor but is also able to work well in a team environment.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Support day to day operations, implementation, enhancement of IBM I workloads within enterprise environment.
  • Experience with IBM Power server, HMC, VIOS, IBM Flash System, EMC Data Domain VTL and other tape and storage solutions.
  • Administer elements including security, job controls, scheduling, planning, system updates, capacity planning, performance, and licensing.
  • Maintain disaster recovery readiness and business continuity including BRMS save/restore and Maxava software replication
  • Administer system integrations including EIM/SSO, web services, other TCP/IP services
  • Develop and maintain security solutions to ensure security of server and data including privileged access, object level security, authorization lists, IFS security, system security values
  • Create documentation, problem analysis, root cause analysis, and procedures
  • Management of system settings, change management software, processes, and procedures to maintain SOX compliance
  • Use languages such as CL and SQL to create scripts for automation
  • Provide support for application, technical support, and operational teams
  • Perform ongoing performance tuning, hardware upgrades, and resource optimization as required. Configure CPU, memory, and disk partitions as required.
  • Experience with Change, Incident and Problem management processes.
  • Other duties may be assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • 5 - 7 years of Systems Administration experience with IBM Power Systems environments running IBM I OS
  • Strong experience with managing partitioned systems, remote journaling, SAN technology, VIOS, HMC, BRMS, Disaster Recovery and Security
  • Experience with system hardware upgrades (example POWER9 to Power10)
  • Experience with Operating System upgrades (example IBM i OS 7.3, 7.4, or 7.5)

 

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

BS degree in Computer Science, Information Systems or related field and 5 to 7 years Systems Administration experience with IBM Power Systems environments running IBM I OS
