Position Summary
The Director of Safety will oversee DOT and Safety compliance in all aspects. Along with monitoring safety systems in place and communicate findings to management. The DOS will also assist in conducting audits in maintenance shops, terminals, plants and communicating those results to management. These responsibilities will be completed by executing the duties listed below, along with other tasks that may be assigned.
Essential Functions
- Provide leadership and establish a safety culture at all plant locations.
- Assist in overseeing all aspects of development, implementation, and management of the Company’s DOT Trucking Compliance Programs, including CMV Files, DOT Driver Qualification Files, DOT Drug/Alcohol Programs, Vehicle Inspections, Hours of Service, etc.
- Evaluate practices, procedures, and facilities to assess risk and adherence to Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) Regulations.
- Conduct Safety meetings and presentations for safety matters and accident prevention
- Conduct Maintenance Shop Audits. Identify potential hazards and recommend solutions to prevent them from reoccurring. Reporting all findings to the Director of Maintenance.
- Assist all training & safety programs, this includes safety suite, video coaching systems, online driver training lessons, and electronic logging device (ELD) oversight.
- Maintain documentation necessary to comply with the Safety Management Plan, OSHA, and other applicable regulations.
- Inspect equipment to observe possible unsafe or non-compliant conditions and ensuring corrective action is taken on audit/inspection findings.
- Evaluate of Roadside Inspections of company trucks and assess accuracy.

- Works with Management at all locations to ensure compliance with all Federal and State(s) safety and health regulations.
- Coordinate and assist in conducting company safety audits/inspections at each location.
- Responsibility for ensuring corrective action is taken on audit/inspection findings.
- Develop, plan, and implement written safety programs, policies, and procedures in compliance with local, state, and federal rules and regulations.
- Assist in reviewing and maintaining all safety files and record keeping, including work compensation and OSHA recordkeeping.
- Works with the Terminal Mangers, Plant Mangers, Vendors, and Independent Contractors to install equipment and new processes, assessing any potential hazards, and coordinate the abatement of those hazards before equipment and process is put into action.
Supervision/Training
- Employee will report to the Director Logistics and will be given adequate training and guidance to excel in this position.

- The employee should be self-motivated, detailed oriented, have excellent organizational skills and be able to multitask and prioritize business needs.

Skill/Knowledge Requirements
Computer Skills:
- Possess proficient computer skills, with an emphasis on Microsoft Excel, Outlook and Tenstreet.
Mathematical Skills:
- Ability to calculate figures and amounts including adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
Reasoning Ability:
- Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
Language Skills:
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret applicable regulations and procedures. Ability to write reports and business correspondences. Ability to effectively communicate and respond to questions from applicants, employees, and managers.
