Lead the Development of Software for Innovative Medical Devices

Our client is seeking a Software Engineering Manager to lead a team responsible for the design, development, validation, and support of software used in medical products. This is a hands-on leadership role that combines technical oversight with active participation in software development, helping drive engineering excellence while ensuring compliance with medical device regulations.
Key Responsibilities
Team Leadership
- Lead, mentor, and develop a team of software engineers
- Foster technical excellence through collaboration and knowledge sharing
- Improve software development processes, methodologies, and best practices
- Manage external resources supporting software validation and cybersecurity testing
Software Development
- Provide technical leadership for software architecture, system design, and development
- Guide software requirements, specifications, and design documentation
- Contribute to software and firmware development as needed
- Lead software testing, code reviews, and verification activities
- Support development of cloud and web-based software applications when appropriate
Product Support
- Lead investigations into software and firmware issues reported from the field
- Direct analysis and implementation of software improvements
- Help ensure software compatibility, reliability, and long-term product performance
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science, or related field
- Advanced degree preferred
- 12+ years of software development experience
- At least 6 years developing software within the medical device industry
- Minimum 5 years leading software engineering teams
- Experience with cybersecurity requirements and software security
- Experience developing real-time firmware for medical devices preferred
- Cloud and web application development experience is a plus
Technical Experience
Experience with the following is preferred:
- C#, C, C++, and SQL
- Git, Mercurial, or SVN
- IEC 60601
- IEC 62304
- ISO 14971
- Medical device software development
- Software validation and verification
- Medical IT infrastructure and cybersecurity
- Leading engineering teams across domestic and international locations
