Professional Liability Specialist - PLS

 Our client is seeking a Professional Liability Specialist that is able to work in a fast-paced environment, providing exceptional claims service to the Company’s insureds.

 

Primary Responsibilities:

This position will analyze, evaluate and manage claims, bring assigned claims and cases to a timely and reasonable resolution by maintaining compliance with the Company’s claims philosophy and guidelines. This position also provides assistance to the Manager and serves as a resource for others in the department. The primary responsibilities of this position also include the following:

  • Establish and maintain contact with insureds, claimants, witnesses, experts, and other concerned parties to gather facts.
  • Attend and participate in initial interviews, depositions, mediations and pretrials as
  • needed.
  • Work with defense counsel to plan and execute defense strategy.
  • Evaluate liability and damages on individual claims through the establishment of injury estimates, use of the Peer Review Committee process and evaluation for settlement
  • authority.
  • Provide documentation to file and update all claims files notes with statuses, claims
  • information and activity.
  • Provide timely and thorough loss advices in order to update the reinsurers.
  • Timely prepare and submit cases through the Peer Review Committee process.
  • Approve legal and expense invoices.
  • Input and maintain data fields within claims system.
  • Assist Claim Manager with training and development of other staff members.
  • Conduct file reviews and other managerial duties as necessary.
  • Provide quality service in all areas of responsibility.
  • Additional duties and responsibilities as required.

 

Required Skills and Qualifications:

Education Required for Position: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent.

Experience Required for Position: At least five years’ experience in medical malpractice claims handling.

Specific Skills Required for Position:

  • Thorough understanding of legal processes, rules of discovery and the various theories of recovery in the tort system.
  • Knowledge and understanding of insurance coverage issues.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Professional service-oriented demeanor.
  • Ability to work in the Chicago office.
  • Juris Doctorate a plus.

 

The pay range is estimated to be between $100,000 and $140,000 per year, based on experience.

  • Proficient in insurance coverage, underwriting principles, and litigation management
  • Juris Doctorate a plus
