COMPANY DESCRIPTION

Our client is a manufacturing and equipment company operating in an industrial environment with machine shop and production facilities. The organization is seeking a safety professional to establish and lead its safety department as a standalone function, with full ownership of all environmental, health, and safety (EHS) programs, compliance, training, and culture initiatives.

JOB SUMMARY

The Safety Specialist will serve as the sole safety professional within the organization, owning the entire safety department and all responsibilities related to environmental, health, and safety (EHS). This is a full-time on-site position based in Pearland, TX. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing, implementing, and monitoring safety policies and programs to ensure strict adherence to established EHS standards. As a one-person department, this role encompasses every aspect of safety management — from program development and training to accident investigation, OSHA compliance, hazard identification, and driving a culture of safety across the organization. This position requires attention to detail, proactive problem-solving, and effective communication with cross-functional teams at all levels.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Safety Program Development & Management

·      Develop, implement, and monitor safety programs to reduce the frequency of accidents and injuries; minimize overall workers' compensation costs.

·      Plan, implement, communicate, and monitor safety policies and procedures in compliance with local, state, and federal OSHA rules and regulations.

·      Audit various safety program elements for effectiveness; schedule and perform safety inspections; identify issues and develop corrective action plans.

·      Maintain thorough knowledge of federal and state OSHA regulations; stay current on safety codes and regulations; distribute and post new or revised safety standards that affect the company.

·      Review and respond to OSHA inquiries.

Training & Culture

·      Organize and facilitate regular company safety meetings, ensuring they are conducted efficiently, stay on schedule, and effectively communicate key safety initiatives.

·      Develop and implement safety training programs designed to instruct employees in general safe work practices plus specific instruction regarding hazards unique to any job assignment; provide training for new employees.

·      Implement and enforce safety policies while driving continuous improvement in safety culture across the organization.

·      Encourage employees and supervisors to report all unsafe conditions immediately and schedule or coordinate repairs as soon as possible.

·      Encourage employees and supervisors to report any injury that occurs on the job, even a slight cut or strain, immediately.

Accident Investigation & Hazard Mitigation

·      Investigate all accidents and injuries; recommend and coordinate corrective actions.

·      Identify potential safety hazards at all facilities; report hazards and recommendations for eliminating or reducing them to management.

·      Supervise, control, and monitor fire prevention and firefighting activities.

·      Coordinate with other departments on design and construction of new equipment, facilities, and work methods to ensure compliance with safety policies and regulations.

Reporting & Administration

·      Maintain records for statistical measurement and conformance to standard practices of the safety industry.

·      Prepare and maintain required safety reports.

·      Perform other related duties as assigned by management.

REQUIREMENTS

Required Qualifications

·      Proficiency in health and safety regulations and practices.

·      Experience with Environment Health and Safety (EHS) standards.

·      Knowledge of occupational health and employee well-being protocols.

·      Ability to develop and deliver engaging safety training programs.

·      Skilled in conducting thorough accident investigations and reporting.

·      Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

·      Experience with manufacturing facilities or machine shop required.

Preferred Qualifications

·      Bachelor's degree in Occupational Safety, Environmental Health, or a related field.

·      Relevant certifications such as OSHA 30, Certified Safety Professional (CSP), or similar credentials.
