The formulas that keep people well are only as strong as the books that keep the work solvent. This role turns small-batch production, seasonal harvests, and a growing care mission into numbers leaders can trust—and decisions they can act on. You will protect cash, clarity, and compliance so the medicine can stay potent, honest, and available.

Performance Objectives

  • Deliver a monthly close within five business days, with reconciled accounts and a narrative leadership can use the same week.
  • Build a 13-week cash forecast and keep working capital sufficient for harvest cycles, inventory, and payroll without surprise shortfalls.
  • Install product and batch costing that shows true margin by formula, channel, and customer—and flag where price, waste, or yield is eroding it.
  • Produce an annual operating plan and quarterly reforecast that ties revenue, cost of goods, and headcount to capacity and inventory reality.
  • Keep tax, sales-tax, and audit filings clean and on time; resolve findings before they become restatements or penalties.
  • Stand up controls for purchasing, inventory, and revenue that a growing team can follow without slowing production.
  • Coach a lean accounting team so close quality does not depend on one person.

Environment & Resources

You report to the chief executive and sit with operations, quality, and commercial leads. A small accounting team and established bookkeeping support are in place; you set the standard and the system. You will have authority over the chart of accounts, close calendar, and finance tools, plus a defined budget for audit, tax, and systems work. Production is hands-on and inventory-heavy; finance is expected on the floor as often as in the spreadsheet.

Essential Qualifications

  • Led month-end close, cash forecasting, and management reporting for a product company with inventory and multiple sales channels.
  • Built or repaired costing so gross margin was trustworthy at the SKU or batch level—not only at the company total.
  • Owned tax compliance, external audit, or reviewed financials for a private company and left a cleaner control environment.
  • Hired or developed accountants and bookkeepers; can do the work and teach it.
  • Comfortable in a 50–200 person operation where systems are real but not fully automated.
  • CPA or equivalent depth in GAAP, inventory, and revenue recognition. Herbal or natural-products experience is useful, not required.

Why This Role

  • Finance that serves a living craft: plants, farms, and small-batch extracts—not a generic consumer brand.
  • Early enough that your close, costing, and forecast become the company’s operating system.
  • Direct line to the chief executive and a seat in decisions on pricing, inventory, and growth.
  • A mission grounded in reciprocity with land and growers, measured in quality as much as margin.

If you can make the numbers as careful as the medicine, apply with a short note on a close, costing, or cash problem you fixed—and what changed because of it.
