Machinist (Setup-Focused)

Overview

We are seeking an experienced Machinist to join a fast-paced, precision manufacturing environment supporting highly regulated programs. This is an immediate opening for a hands-on professional who excels at machine setup and thrives in a shop where no two parts or projects are the same.

This role is ideal for someone who enjoys variety, problem-solving, and working on complex, low-volume components rather than repetitive production work.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform full machine setups for a variety of parts, ensuring accuracy and efficiency from start to finish
  • Operate CNC and/or manual machines to produce high-precision components
  • Interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and specifications to guide setup and machining processes
  • Select appropriate tooling, fixtures, and materials based on job requirements
  • Adjust machine settings and offsets to maintain tight tolerances and quality standards
  • Inspect completed parts using precision measurement tools to verify conformance
  • Troubleshoot setup and machining issues to ensure consistent output and minimize downtime
  • Work closely with quality and engineering teams to meet product requirements
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of machining experience in a precision manufacturing environment
  • Strong setup experience is required; this is not a “button pusher” role
  • Proven ability to independently set up machines for a wide variety of parts and materials
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings
  • Experience working with tight tolerances and complex geometries
  • Proficiency with measurement tools such as calipers, micrometers, and other inspection equipment
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
  • Background in aerospace, defense, automotive, or similar industries is preferred
  • Ability to adapt in a fast-moving, high-mix/low-volume environment

Work Environment & Schedule

  • First shift, Monday through Friday (typical hours approximately 7:00 AM – 4:00 PM)
  • Limited overtime, depending on business needs
  • On-site role in a collaborative shop environment

Compensation

  • Hourly rate typically in the range of $30–$40/hour, depending on experience
  • Overtime available as needed

What Sets This Role Apart

  • High variety of work—no repetitive production runs
  • Opportunity to take ownership of setups and machining strategy
  • Work in a nimble, team-oriented environment where adaptability is valued
  • Immediate hiring need with a streamlined interview process
