Senior Grants Compliance Specialist
Location: Whidbey Island, WA (Onsite)
About the Opportunity
A well-established organization is seeking a Senior Grants Compliance & Financial Reporting Manager to take ownership of grant compliance, financial oversight, reporting, and process improvement across a growing portfolio of state and federally funded programs.
This is a highly visible role that will work closely with executive leadership, accounting, project management, and grant administration teams to ensure ongoing compliance with grant requirements while building the processes, controls, and structure necessary to support future growth.
The organization currently manages multiple active grants and expects significant expansion in grant funding over the coming years.
What You'll Do
Grant Compliance & Oversight
- Manage compliance activities across a portfolio of state and federal grants.
- Interpret grant agreements, funding requirements, and regulatory obligations.
- Ensure compliance with Federal Uniform Guidance (2 CFR 200) and other applicable grant regulations.
- Monitor grant activities and expenditures to identify potential compliance risks.
- Review historical and current grant activity to identify and resolve compliance gaps.
Financial Reporting & Analysis
- Prepare and submit required grant reports and reimbursement requests.
- Reconcile grant expenditures and supporting documentation.
- Review financial statements and accounting records to ensure grant compliance.
- Partner with accounting leadership to ensure proper tracking and allocation of grant expenses.
- Support grant audits, monitoring reviews, and financial reporting requirements.
Process Improvement & Internal Controls
- Establish and improve grant administration processes, workflows, and documentation standards.
- Develop internal controls that support compliance, audit readiness, and operational efficiency.
- Create consistent procedures for grant monitoring, reporting, and record retention.
- Lead initiatives to strengthen organizational compliance practices and reduce risk.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Work closely with executive leadership, accounting, project managers, and grant administrators.
- Communicate complex compliance and financial information to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Provide guidance and training related to grant compliance requirements and best practices.
- Support future grant applications through budgeting and compliance expertise.
What We're Looking For
- 5+ years of experience in grant compliance, grant administration, grant accounting, or related financial oversight roles.
- Strong knowledge of Federal Uniform Guidance (2 CFR 200).
- Experience managing state and/or federal grant compliance requirements.
- Ability to analyze financial statements and accounting records.
- Experience preparing reimbursement requests, grant reports, and audit documentation.
- Demonstrated success creating, improving, or standardizing business processes.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including executive-level communication.
Preferred Background
- Experience working with government-funded programs.
- Background with infrastructure, utilities, telecommunications, broadband, public-sector, or similarly regulated grant programs.
- Prior experience supporting audits and compliance reviews.
- Experience building grant compliance programs or correcting compliance deficiencies.

Compensation
$75,000 – $107,000 base salary
Location Requirement: This position is fully onsite, five days per week, on Whidbey Island, Washington.
