Lighthouse Technology Services is partnering with our client to fill their SQL Server Platform Engineer position! This is a 12-18 month contract opportunity and will be hybrid 3 to 4 days on site in Buffalo, NY or Wilmington, DE.

This role will be a W2 employee of Lighthouse Technology Services. No C2C or subcontracting arrangements will be considered.

What You'll Be Doing:

• Architect and engineer enterprise-level SQL Server solutions across on-premises and cloud environments, serving as subject matter expert for complex database platform initiatives
• Deploy and manage SQL Server databases in Microsoft Azure using infrastructure-as-code tools including Ansible and Terraform
• Provide strategic direction and expert consultation to internal application owners on database design, optimization, and future-state architecture aligned with enterprise goals
• Lead analysis and implementation of complex database enhancements, migrations, and modernization projects from requirements through production deployment
• Design and recommend optimal database architectures based on business requirements, performance needs, and cloud-first strategies
• Mentor and develop less experienced database engineers, providing technical guidance and knowledge transfer on best practices
• Manage vendor relationships and represent the organization at executive advisory boards and industry conferences
• Troubleshoot and resolve complex production database issues while ensuring minimal business impact and maintaining high availability
• Oversee business continuity, disaster recovery, and audit compliance processes for database platforms
• Collaborate with Architecture, Application Development teams, and Technology leadership to evaluate new database technologies and establish platform standards

What You'll Need to Have:

• This is a senior level role and requires senior-level experience with Microsoft SQL Server engineering and administration across enterprise environments
• Strong proficiency with infrastructure-as-code tools, specifically Ansible and Terraform for database deployment and configuration management
• Demonstrated experience engineering and managing databases in Microsoft Azure, including Azure SQL Database and related platform services
• Proven ability to design, implement, and optimize complex database solutions for both on-premises and cloud environments
• Experience leading multiple concurrent projects of varying complexity, including large-scale system enhancements, migrations, and conversions
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with ability to translate business requirements into technical database solutions
• Strong communication and presentation skills with ability to serve as trusted advisor to technical and business stakeholders

Pay Range: $65-75+/hr
