Volunteer role with expenses
Every week, Scouts inspires nearly half a million young people aged 4–25 to step up, speak up and gain the skills they need to thrive. Up and down the country, Scouts are helping out, mucking in, bringing communities together and making society stronger. Their role is to help young people belong, get into nature, and feel good about themselves, giving them the courage to ask the big questions and to think for themselves.
Everyone’s welcome: all genders, backgrounds and faiths (and no faith).
It’s an exciting moment for Scouts. Led by core values of care, respect, integrity, cooperation and curiosity about their own and others' beliefs Scouts helps young people step up, speak up and dream big. It helps them get into the outdoors, believe in themselves and find their place in the world.
Scouts have recently concluded their 2018–2025 Skills for Life Strategy, which has transformed the movement in many ways. This year, they have launched a clear new strategy focused on reaching more young people and empowering them to lead change in their communities. Created with input from 28,000 adults and young people, it outlines what they aim to achieve over the next nine years in contributing to a more cohesive, connected society. They launched Squirrel Scouts for 4–6 year olds, which continues to grow rapidly. They've made it easier and more rewarding to volunteer through changes in culture and systems. They're more confident than ever in the impact of the skills for life they offer young people, and in the value they bring to communities, but know there is more to do.
As part of their continued evolution, they are seeking a new Chair.
As the new Chair, you’ll bring strong leadership to the Board of Trustees. You’ll be a proven leader in your field with an excellent understanding of governance. A clear and persuasive communicator, you’ll also be able to win people over and make strong relationships with key stakeholders. Able to step easily into other people’s shoes, you’ll also know to listen to, support and thank the movement’s volunteers, and really understand what makes them tick. You could come from any sector – private, public or charity – but more than anything else, you’ll be a do-er, a go-getter and a give-it-a-goer. Someone with a commitment to helping young people gain the skills to succeed in life – giving them the courage to ask the big questions, to think for themselves and go for it in life.
