Any CPS office location but with regular travel to London

The Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) is the principal public department responsible for prosecuting criminal cases investigated by the police and other investigative bodies in England and Wales. We make independent, fair, and objective decisions on whether to bring prosecutions. When a case meets our legal threshold, we authorise the police to charge the defendant, present evidence, and seek a court ruling to secure justice.

We are now seeking an exceptional individual for the pivotal role of Director General Legal Delivery (DG LD). This newly established position, along with the Chief Operating Officer, carries executive responsibility for the strategic management of the CPS, its 7,000 employees, and its budget of approximately £890m. As a key member of the CPS Board, Executive Group, and Ministerial Strategic Board, the DG LD will work closely with the Director of Public Prosecutions and deputise for him. The DG LD will oversee the operational management of our Legal Delivery—encompassing legal services and operations—with overall accountability for a workforce of over 6,000 people and a budget of £610m.

The successful candidate will provide visible leadership, ensuring the development and implementation of the Legal Delivery corporate plan, while supporting the continued development and improvement of our casework operating model to be ever more effective.

The ideal candidate will be a professionally qualified Solicitor or Barrister with at least 10 years post-qualification experience, entitled to practise in England and Wales. They will have extensive experience in either criminal law or civil litigation, with a proven track record in leadership in a complex organisation. Additionally, the individual must have expertise in improving the efficiency of casework management and enhancing organisational performance, coupled with a strong capability to perform under pressure and scrutiny.

This is a unique opportunity to take on a senior leadership role in a vital public service and help the better delivery of justice.
