Location: London & Crewe (for meetings)

Remuneration: £29,000 per year

Time Commitment: Approx. 25 days annually

Contract: 3 years, potential extension

Start Date: January 2025

Role Overview:

As a Non-Executive Director (NED) at RFL, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the strategic direction of the organisation. By serving on the Audit & Risk and Investment Committees, you will provide independent oversight, ensuring that RFL meets its regulatory obligations and maintains robust risk management practices. While we are seeking an experienced Non-Executive Director, we will also consider first-time NEDs who bring substantial experience operating at the board level.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Strategic Contribution: Challenge and contribute to the development and approval of RFL’s strategy.
  • Performance Oversight: Monitor Executive team performance, ensuring goals align with RFL’s mission.
  • Risk Management & Compliance: Ensure investment and operational risks are effectively managed within FCA regulatory frameworks.
  • People Management: Support executive appointments, succession planning, and performance evaluations.


Person Specification:

  • Proven experience in governance, strategy, and risk management, ideally in an FCA-regulated organisation.
  • Strong understanding of investment and operational risk.
  • Ability to challenge and support senior leadership constructively.
  • A commitment to the Nolan Principles and public service values.
