Founded over 50 years ago by visionary economist EF Schumacher, Practical Action exists to create lasting positive change to the systems that keep people vulnerable to the impacts of poverty, climate change and nature loss, working alongside communities to create resilient livelihoods and thriving economies. During that time, we have earned a reputation for supporting and scaling innovative, community-empowered solutions that achieve transformative change in people’s lives. As the interlinked poverty, climate and nature crises worsen, these approaches are needed more than ever. We are now looking for a new Chief Operating Officer to play a key role in shaping Practical Action’s future.
This is a role with transformation at its heart. Practical Action has an ambitious agenda and is in the process of finalising its next 5-year strategy, launching in 2025. Our work reaches from communities on the frontline of the climate crisis to governments and businesses, from the local to the global. As such, our COO will play a central part in delivering the next stage of our journey, developing our systems, people and ways of working to support more distributed leadership and increase the impact of our partnerships.
Importantly, our COO will ensure that Practical Action is a responsive, effective organisation alongside being a great place to work. We would value an experience executive with deep financial and operational experience with a truly global approach, driven by the opportunity to support people to lift themselves out of poverty and to change the systems that keep people poor and vulnerable.
