Imperial War Museums is looking for an exceptional senior leader to help shape the future of one of the UK’s most important cultural institutions.

As Executive Director, Governance & Resources, you will lead the strategy, systems and services that keep IWM resilient, ambitious and brilliantly run. Reporting to the Director-General and working closely with the Executive Leadership Team and Trustees, you will oversee a multidisciplinary directorate of more than 130 professionals across finance, governance, procurement, legal, IT & AV, estates, sustainability, fundraising, masterplanning and related people and culture matters.

This is a role for a commercially astute, professionally qualified finance and governance leader who can combine strategic grip with collaborative leadership. You will ensure IWM meets its fiduciary, legal, statutory and health and safety obligations, while building modern, responsive support services that enable the whole organisation to deliver.

We are seeking a leader with significant experience of working at executive level, leading large multidisciplinary teams, managing complex estates and IT infrastructure, and partnering effectively with boards, trustees, regulators, funders and senior stakeholders. You will bring a “no silo” mindset, strong judgement, excellent communication skills and the ability to balance what must be done with what should be done.

Above all, you will be a developer of people and a champion of high-performing, service-focused teams — someone who can build trust, challenge poor practice, drive improvement and help IWM continue to set the standard for museums and heritage organisations in the 21st century.
