The Institute for Government is the UK’s leading independent think tank working to make government better through in-depth research and analysis, open discussion and fresh thinking.

We work with all political parties and with civil servants in Westminster and across the UK to improve the capability of government, providing new, evidence-based ideas through research, events and leadership development.

We are now recruiting for a new Director of the IfG Academy to lead this flagship arm of the Institute and help drive forward our strategic aims.

In this high-profile role, you will set and deliver the Academy’s vision, positioning it as the UK’s sector leader in political learning and development. You will shape the Academy’s strategy and programmes at board level, ensuring they make a major contribution to the Institute’s impact while also meeting ambitious income generation targets. Acting as the Academy’s most senior external representative, you will build influential relationships with senior politicians, officials, and international partners, and will be a credible figurehead for the Institute in public and private forums.

You will lead and inspire a talented team, driving innovation in the Academy’s approach and ensuring the highest quality across everything we deliver. Alongside developing partnerships and securing resources, you will strengthen the Academy’s capability to support the most senior political and official audiences and help embed learning and development across the Institute’s wider work.

We are looking for an outstanding leader with deep knowledge of UK government, proven experience of building successful external partnerships, and the creativity, commercial acumen and strategic vision to expand the Academy’s reach and impact. You will bring gravitas and credibility with senior stakeholders, excellent programme and people management skills, and a collaborative leadership style. You will be committed to the Institute for Government’s non-partisan approach and, above all, you will share our belief in the power of good government to improve lives.

The role is full time with a salary of £120,000 per annum.
