Programme Director - Credit Union Project
Fair4All Finance
London, ENG
Apply for this job

Location: London/hybrid 2 days a week, with national travel and flexibility on working from home at other times

Remuneration: £ 90,000 – £110,000

Fair4All Finance exist to improve the financial wellbeing of people in financially vulnerable circumstances by increasing access to fair, affordable and appropriate financial services. They believe financial products can, and should, serve everyone.

They partner with financial services providers, community finance organisations, government, regulators and civil society to help people who are excluded from, or poorly served by, mainstream financial services.

They are seeking a Programme Director to lead their high-profile Credit Union Transformation Fund, a major £30m, multi-year programme designed to modernise, strengthen and scale the credit union sector in England and Wales. This is a pivotal opportunity to help unlock the potential of member-owned, community-rooted finance, improving access to affordable credit and supporting better outcomes for people and places across the country.

Credit unions have deep local trust and a powerful social purpose. Yet parts of the sector remain fragmented, under-scaled and constrained by legacy systems. This programme will support collaboration, strategic mergers, shared services, digital modernisation, organisational capability and long-term sustainability.

As Programme Director, you will turn ambition into delivery. You will lead the design and implementation of the Fund, develop a clear roadmap, oversee governance and risk, manage significant budgets, and work closely with credit union leaders, boards, funders, regulators, government, trade bodies and delivery partners.

This is a senior, outward-facing role requiring both strategic judgement and practical grip. You will need to bring clarity to complexity, build trust across different interests, and maintain momentum in a fast-moving, ambiguous and politically sensitive environment. You will have the credibility to operate in national forums, alongside the humility to listen, learn and work through detail with partners.

You will have significant experience leading complex transformation, restructuring or system-change programmes in a regulated or multi-stakeholder setting. This may have been gained in financial services, mutuals, community finance, technology, local or regional economic development, social investment or another relevant sectors.

Fair4All Finance is committed to building a diverse and inclusive organisation that reflects the communities they serve. They welcome applications from people of all backgrounds and will make reasonable adjustments throughout the recruitment process.
