About the role:

Reporting to the CEO and working closely with the Directors of Prizes, Content, and Development, you will play a central role in the smooth running of the Foundation. This hands-on position encompasses finance, operations, HR, governance, compliance, and risk management, and offers the chance to directly influence the organisation’s long-term strategy and operational effectiveness.

Key responsibilities:

  • Lead the finance function, including budgeting, reporting, financial planning, and liaison with auditors.

  • Support technology, digital, and infrastructure planning to meet current and future needs.

About you:

  • Chartered or Certified Accountant (or equivalent) with post-qualification experience.
  • Proven experience in finance leadership, ideally within a charity or not-for-profit environment.
  • Strong operational, organisational, and people management skills.
  • Strategic thinker with an eye for detail, able to balance planning and hands-on execution.
  • Excellent communicator and stakeholder manager, comfortable working with senior trustees and external advisers.
  • Familiarity with charity law, regulatory frameworks, HR, and organisational compliance.

This is an outstanding opportunity to shape the future of one of the UK’s most prestigious literary organisations. You will join a supportive, high-performing team and play a key role in ensuring the Foundation’s sustainability, efficiency, and continued success.
