About the Organization
Summit Search Group has been retained by a proudly Canadian company on the recruitment of a Maintenance Manager. With headquarters in Winnipeg and multiple locations across Canada, this well-established organization has earned a strong reputation in its field over many decades of operation. The company runs Agri-Food processing facilities serving a broad base of customers across North America and is known for the quality of its products, the reliability of its operations, and its commitment to the people who make them run.
This is an organization that invests in its people and takes operational excellence seriously. Skilled tradespeople are valued here, and the maintenance function is understood to be central, not peripheral, to what the business delivers every day.
The Opportunity
This is a full-time, permanent leadership role within a busy industrial processing environment in Winnipeg. The Maintenance Manager takes end-to-end ownership of the facility’s maintenance function: equipment reliability, capital planning, contractor oversight, budget management, and team leadership. Beyond keeping the operation running, the role carries meaningful project responsibility, leading equipment installations, facility improvements, and system upgrades from planning through to completion.
This is a role for a certified tradesperson who leads from the front, solves problems with confidence, and takes genuine pride in developing the people around them. The incoming Maintenance Manager will find a stable, well-resourced environment where the maintenance function is respected and supported, and where there is real opportunity to put a personal stamp on how things are done.
Key Responsibilities
- Take full ownership of equipment reliability across the facility, building and executing preventive maintenance schedules, responding to breakdowns with urgency, and reducing unplanned downtime through disciplined inspection and monitoring routines.
- Diagnose and repair a broad range of mechanical and electrical systems, including motors, drives, conveyors, compressors, and production equipment, leading hands-on repair and installation work alongside the maintenance crew.
- Plan and execute capital and facility improvement projects from start to finish, coordinating internal resources and external trades to deliver on scope, schedule, and budget.
- Build and steward the departmental budget, covering operating expenditures and capital replacement planning for equipment, tools, and infrastructure, with a focus on cost discipline and long-term asset integrity.
- Set clear expectations for the maintenance team, assign and review work, maintain accurate records and documentation, and hold the team accountable to safe work practices and quality of workmanship.
- Foster a culture of safety, precision, and continuous improvement; mentor junior team members and apprentices; and maintain compliance with all applicable workplace safety regulations and internal procedures.
Qualifications
- Red Seal certification in a relevant trade is required; Millwright, Industrial Mechanic, Heavy Duty Equipment Technician, or a closely related designation will be considered.
- A background in industrial or processing environments, with hands-on experience maintaining, repairing, and installing production equipment; prior experience within an Agri-Food processing facility is a meaningful asset.
- Solid working knowledge of industrial systems including motors, bearings, VFDs, PLCs, instrumentation, compressors, and conveyance equipment, along with the ability to read and interpret technical drawings, schematics, and manuals.
- Demonstrated ability to plan and manage capital projects, coordinate external contractors across multiple trades, and keep complex work on track against schedule and budget.
- A practical, decisive problem-solver who prioritizes competing demands effectively, communicates clearly at all levels, and keeps operations moving confidently under pressure.
- Physically capable of meeting the full demands of an active industrial environment, including lifting up to 50 lbs, working at heights and in confined spaces; a genuine commitment to team development and mentoring is essential.
