About the Organization

Summit Search Group has been retained by MLS Management on the recruitment of a Hotel General Manager at the Clarion Pointe Hotel. MLS Management is a locally owned, family-run hospitality group operating a portfolio of branded hotels and related businesses across Winnipeg and beyond, including multiple Choice Hotels and Marriott-branded properties. The group has built a strong reputation in the Winnipeg market through years of hands-on, owner-operated management and a genuine commitment to both the guest experience and the people who deliver it.

The Hotel General Manager opportunity sits at the Clarion Pointe Hotel in St. Vital, Winnipeg, which operates alongside Tapp’s Neighbourhood Pub and Cold Beer Market under one roof. While the hotel itself is a boutique operation, the real scale of this property is in its food, beverage, and entertainment footprint. Tapp’s Neighbourhood Pub seats over 300 guests including a VLT lounge, and is one of the busiest sports-pub operations in the local market. This is a high-volume, multi-department operation with the complexity and performance expectations of a much larger enterprise.

The Opportunity

Reporting directly to ownership, the Hotel General Manager is the senior operational leader of the entire Clarion Pointe property, with full accountability for the hotel, Tapp’s Neighbourhood Pub, Cold Beer Market, and a commercial tenant portfolio. The GM leads a team of department managers across accounting, front desk, bar operations, and the beer store, providing the oversight, coaching, and accountability that keep a busy, high-revenue property running profitably and to standard. This is a genuinely hands-on leadership role that rewards presence, commitment, and depth of hospitality experience. This is a career role for someone who thrives in a fast-paced, high-volume hospitality environment and takes genuine pride in the operation they lead.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee all areas of the property, including the hotel, Tapp’s Neighbourhood Pub (300+ seats and VLT lounge), Cold Beer Market, and commercial tenant portfolio, ensuring profitable, service-oriented operations across every department.
  • Lead, coach, and develop a team of department managers across accounting, front desk, bar operations, and the beer store, setting clear expectations and building a culture of accountability, service excellence, and continuous improvement.
  • Own the financial performance of the property, including budget development, revenue forecasting, cost controls, and regular reporting to ownership, with a focus on protecting and growing profitability across all revenue streams.
  • Maintain high standards of food, beverage, and guest experience by monitoring, evaluating, and auditing service across the pub, restaurant, hotel, and vendor, and driving ongoing improvement initiatives.
  • Provide full HR leadership across the property, including recruitment, onboarding, training, scheduling, performance reviews, coaching, and disciplinary processes, ensuring the team is well-supported, well-led, and set up to succeed.
  • Uphold health, safety, sanitation, and licensing standards across all areas of the operation, ensuring compliance with applicable regulations and a safe, secure environment for guests, staff, and commercial tenants.

Qualifications

  • A minimum of 5 years of progressive management experience in food and beverage within the hospitality industry;
  • Experience within a corporate or branded restaurant and/or full-service hotel chain, with a genuine understanding of operating within corporate policies, procedures, and reporting structures.
  • Demonstrated experience managing budgets and forecasting revenue across a multi-department hospitality operation.
  • A hands-on, roll-up-the-sleeves leadership style with genuine comfort in a high-volume, fast-paced environment and a proven ability to commit to the hours and presence this type of operation demands.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, an excellent customer service orientation, and the interpersonal ability to build lasting relationships with guests, staff, and ownership.
  • Familiarity with the Winnipeg hospitality market and Manitoba’s commission-based beer store model is a meaningful asset; post-secondary education in Restaurant & Hospitality Management is an asset but is not required.
