Mid-Level Product Designer / UX Designer — Australia

Contract opportunity | Australia | Through 31 March 2027

Role Overview

We are seeking a hands-on, mid-level Product Designer / UX Designer with approximately 3–5 years of experience designing digital software products that have been implemented and released to users.

This role focuses on end-to-end product design, combining interaction design, user experience, visual design, prototyping and engineering handoff.

You will work on complex, multistep product workflows and collaborate with product managers and software engineers to translate business and user requirements into clear, scalable, production-ready experiences.

The role involves collaboration with distributed product development teams in Tokyo and Hyderabad, reporting to a Tokyo-based UX Director. Availability for collaboration across international time zones, including US stakeholders, is important.

What You'll Do

  • Design end-to-end experiences for web-based or other digital software products, from defined requirements through engineering implementation.
  • Create intuitive interaction designs for complex, multistep workflows, including forms, structured processes, navigation and user flows.
  • Produce high-quality interface designs in Figma, including layouts, components, interaction states and detailed specifications.
  • Develop interactive prototypes to communicate and validate design decisions.
  • Collaborate with product managers, engineers and other stakeholders to deliver implemented product features.
  • Address responsive layouts, accessibility, validation, error handling, edge cases and usability.
  • Work with established design systems and reusable patterns where applicable.
  • Explain design decisions, trade-offs and rationale clearly to technical and nontechnical stakeholders.
  • Manage assigned design work independently while collaborating across distributed teams.

Core Requirements

  • Approximately 3–5 years of relevant professional experience in product design, UX design or interaction design.
  • Hands-on design experience with digital software products or platforms.
  • A portfolio showing real product features that were implemented and shipped, not exclusively visual concepts, branding, graphic design or speculative redesigns.
  • Strong experience designing complex user interactions, workflows and interfaces.
  • Proficiency in Figma, including interactive prototypes and developer-ready design specifications.
  • Ability to translate requirements into practical, reusable product design solutions.
  • Understanding of responsive design, accessibility, interaction states and common UX patterns.
  • Experience collaborating with product managers and software engineers through implementation.
  • Clear communication and ability to collaborate with globally distributed teams.

Particularly Relevant Experience

Experience in any of the following would be advantageous:

  • Enterprise software, SaaS products or web applications.
  • B2B platforms, administrative interfaces or internal tools.
  • Workflow-heavy applications, forms, questionnaires, screening tools or configuration interfaces.
  • Design systems, reusable components and scalable interface patterns.
  • White-label or multibrand products.
  • Products serving different user groups, such as administrators and end users.
  • AI-assisted prototyping tools.

Portfolio Expectations

Candidates should have an accessible online portfolio or be able to provide relevant product case studies.

The most useful examples demonstrate:

  • The product problem and user context.
  • The candidate's personal contribution and responsibilities.
  • Interaction and visual design decisions.
  • Progression from requirements and design exploration to production implementation.
  • Collaboration with engineers and product stakeholders.
  • The final shipped experience and its outcomes, where available.

Engagement Details

  • Location: Australia; specific work arrangement to be confirmed.
  • Type: Contract.
  • Duration: Through 31 March 2027.
  • Compensation: Market competitive; subject to experience and engagement arrangement.
  • Working arrangement: Must support collaboration with product development teams in Japan and India, and relevant stakeholders in the United States.

Additional Submission Requirement

Candidates progressing to submission must demonstrate suitable connectivity to the designated AWS WorkSpaces environment using the prescribed connectivity test. Supporting evidence will be requested during the submission process.
