• Livestock & Dairy Specialty: Oversees a specialized portfolio in beef, livestock, and dairy financing.

THE ROLE:

SVP, Director of Commercial Credit

Our client is seeking a SVP, Director of Commercial Credit to serve as a strategic leader providing executive management, coaching, and talent development for a team of 20 to 25 commercial credit professionals, including three credit managers. Reporting directly to the Chief Credit Officer, this role provides high-level credit administration and strategic risk oversight for an outstanding commercial portfolio spanning Livestock and Dairy Specialty, Agricultural Production, and Capital Markets. Core responsibilities include establishing consistent credit philosophy and underwriting standards across the association, guiding deal structuring, directing credit committee workflows, and leading credit teams to optimize risk-differentiated loan delivery processes. Additionally, the SVP collaborates with regional leadership to navigate complex loan situations, monitors portfolio risk trends for executive management and the Board, and assists in long-term strategic planning and credit policy development.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Underwriting Consistency & Governance: Establish Association-wide consistency in credit underwriting, loan structuring, and structural integrity aligned with commercial market needs.
• Strategic Credit Alignment: Partner directly with the Chief Credit Officer to define acceptable risk tolerance levels, credit philosophy, and underwriting standards.
• Team Mentorship & Leadership: Manage, hire, and evaluate a team of 20 to 25 credit professionals, serving as a primary mentor to elevate team analysis and credit skills.
• Committee Leadership: Oversee workflow requiring Credit Committee review and chair final decisions on complex, large-scale core commercial transactions.
• Special Assets & Risk Mitigation: Provide strategic guidance on problem loan scenarios and debt restructuring plans to protect capital.
• Process & Technology Innovation: Sponsor and lead the implementation of advanced credit review tools, automation software, and modern underwriting practices.
• Cross-Functional Partnering: Collaborate with regional presidents and lending officers on loan terms, structural parameters, and complex deals ranging up to multi-million dollar syndications.
• Executive & Board Reporting: Assist senior executive leadership in long-term departmental budgeting, strategic planning, regulatory liaison work, and board risk reporting.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Education: Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Finance, Accounting, Agricultural Economics, or a related field. A CPA, CFA, or post-graduate degree is considered highly favorable.
• Underwriting & Credit Experience: A minimum of ten (10) years of experience in commercial credit analysis and underwriting, with at least five (5) years of direct management experience handling complex loans over $2.5 million.
• Industry Experience: Deep familiarity with agricultural business, corporate banking, or volatile commodity-driven sectors (e.g., energy, oil & gas).
• Credit Administration: Proven expertise in commercial mortgage lending, financial regulations, accounting standards, appraisal standards, and portfolio management.
• Executive Communication: Outstanding presentation, public speaking, and conflict resolution skills, with the conviction to defend credit decisions professionally to executive leadership.
