Overview

Our client is a fast-growing, premium cannabis brand that has already achieved rapid traction across the New Jersey market. With a strong luxury identity, innovative product pipeline, and ambitious growth targets, our client is seeking to bring on an experienced Sales Manager to own and scale New Jersey sales efforts. 

This is a highly autonomous, field-driven action-oriented sales role suitable for a proven cannabis sales professional who thrives in relationship-based selling, understands the New Jersey dispensary landscape, and can execute without hand-holding. The role is designed to grow into a Director of Sales position for the right individual.

The right candidate will identify as connected, accountable, professional, honest and hard-working. 

Key Responsibilities:

Sales & Relationship Management

  • Establish and grow relationships with New Jersey dispensaries, buyers, and procurement teams.
  • Sell branded cannabis products into retail stores and secure consistent reorders.
  • Manage existing accounts to drive repeat business, display placement, and long-term partnerships.
  • Build strong relationships with budtenders, including implementing incentive programs to support sell-through.
  • Represent the brand in-store and at events as needed.

Market Expansion & Execution

  • Rapidly expand store count across New Jersey with the goal of becoming a top 100 brand within three months and top 25 by year-end.
  • Implement in-store displays and promotional initiatives.
  • Monitor competitor activity, pricing, and positioning in the New Jersey market.

Sales Operations & Accountability

  • Maintain disciplined follow-up on orders, reorders, and outstanding invoices.
  • Conduct regular outreach via phone, email, and in-person visits.
  • Participate in daily check-ins with leadership to review progress, priorities, and performance.

Leadership & Growth (Future-Focused)

  • Help lay the foundation for a scalable sales function.
  • Contribute to the eventual build-out and leadership of a sales team as the business grows.
  • Progression potential into a Director of Sales or Regional Sales leadership role.

Performance Metrics (KPIs)

  • Number of active dispensary accounts.
  • New store placements and reorder frequency.
  • Monthly wholesale revenue (targeting $200,000+ for top-tier performance).
  • Market ranking within the New Jersey market.
  • Execution of displays and in-store initiatives.

Ideal Experience & Background

  • 2+ years of experience selling legal branded cannabis products into New Jersey dispensaries.
  • Existing relationships with dispensary buyers and procurement decision-makers.
  • Proven ability to consistently generate $150,000+ in monthly wholesale volume for an extended period.
  • Stable employment history with demonstrated follow-through and commitment.
  • Comfort balancing phone-based selling, sales administration, and in-person field work.

Required Skills & Personal Attributes:

  • Self-starter mentality with strong discipline and independence.
  • High level of integrity and honesty in sales interactions.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to handle difficult conversations professionally and respectfully.
  • Comfort addressing challenges such as payment follow-ups when required.
  • Resourceful, positive, and solution-oriented mindset.
  • Consistent follow-through and accountability.
  • Receptiveness to feedback and commitment to continuous improvement.

Tools & Technology

  • Comfort using a call management application for call tracking and recording.
  • Comfortable with sales tracking systems (admin) 
  • Ability to operate effectively in a remote, field-based sales environment with minimal oversight.

Travel & Work Expectations

  • Frequent travel throughout New Jersey to visit dispensaries and partners.
  • Must have a license and a vehicle
  • Blend between on the phone and in person.
  • Participation in in-store events as the brand continues to scale.
  • Daily 30-minute check-in calls with leadership every morning.

Growth & Advancement:

This role is intentionally designed for growth. High performance may lead to:

  • Advancement into a Director of Sales role.
  • Responsibility for building and managing territory managers.
  • Expansion into regional or multi-state leadership as the brand enters new markets.
