The Human Resources Manager will lead HR operations at a manufacturing facility, serving as a strategic partner to site leadership. This role oversees all HR functions, including employee relations, talent acquisition, compliance, training, and workforce development. The position requires strong leadership capability, a hands-on approach, and experience supporting both hourly and salaried employees in an industrial or manufacturing environment.
Key Responsibilities:
Strategic Leadership
- Partner with site leadership to develop and execute People & Culture strategies aligned with operational and organizational goals.
- Advise management on workforce planning, organizational design, and talent development.
- Support change management initiatives and continuous improvement efforts.
Employee Relations & Culture
- Foster a positive work environment that promotes communication, collaboration, and employee engagement.
- Serve as the primary resource for resolving employee concerns, conducting investigations, and supporting corrective actions.
- Ensure consistent application of company policies and procedures.
Talent Acquisition & Retention
- Support recruiting efforts for both hourly and salaried roles.
- Develop and implement strategies to reduce turnover and attract skilled talent.
- Oversee employee onboarding, orientation, and integration at the facility.
Compliance & People & Culture Administration
- Ensure compliance with federal and state employment laws, internal policies, and safety standards.
- Manage P&C reporting, audits, and document retention requirements.
- Provide oversight and support for leave programs, including FMLA, ADA accommodations, workers’ compensation, and related processes.
Training & Workforce Development
- Identify training needs and coordinate programs related to safety, leadership development, and technical or skills-based training.
- Support succession planning and employee career development initiatives.
Compensation, Benefits & Payroll Support
- Administer corporate compensation programs and support annual wage review processes.
- Assist employees with benefits-related questions and open enrollment activities.
- Partner with payroll and corporate P&C teams to ensure accurate employee data and timekeeping.
Safety & Plant Collaboration
- Collaborate closely with the site safety team on incident investigations, communication, and proactive safety initiatives.
- Participate in plant committees, leadership meetings, and cross-functional projects.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
- Minimum of 5 years of progressive People & Culture experience, including at least 2 years in a leadership or management role.
- Strong knowledge of employment laws, P&C best practices, and regulatory compliance.
- Experience supporting a manufacturing or industrial workforce.
- Excellent communication, decision-making, and interpersonal skills.
- Demonstrated ability to influence and collaborate effectively at all organizational levels.
Preferred Qualifications
- Professional P&C or HR certification (e.g., SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP, PHR, SPHR).
- Experience working in a unionized environment (if applicable).
- Familiarity with HRIS platforms and data-driven People & Culture decision-making.
Working Environment
- Primarily office-based, with occasional time spent in the manufacturing area as needed.
- Use of appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) in plant areas, such as safety shoes, safety glasses, and hearing protection.
