§ Associate Attorney | Insurance Coverage & Strategic Risk Litigation

Practice Area: Complex Insurance Disputes / Policy Analysis / Commercial Litigation

§ Location: New York City, NY (Hybrid Work Model)

§ Salary: $260,000 to $365,000 Base Salary (Subject to experience and typically eligible for discretionary year-end bonuses)

§ Schedule: Full-time, Direct-Hire, Minimum 1,850 hours annual billed target

§ Duties

The incoming Associate will be instrumental in navigating the intricate landscape of insurance coverage and liability, acting as a key advisor within the firm’s insurance team. This role requires a sophisticated understanding of the insurance market and the ability to dissect complex policy language to advocate for client interests. The position blends high-level litigation support with transactional advisory work, ensuring comprehensive risk management for corporate clients.

Core responsibilities will include:

⨖ Analyzing and interpreting complex first- and third-party insurance policies to determine coverage scope and exclusions.

⨖ Advising clients on liability exposure across diverse coverage lines, including General Liability, Directors & Officers (D&O) liability, Property, and Cyber insurance.

⨖ conducting due diligence and providing counsel on Representations and Warranties (R&W) insurance provisions within the context of high-value corporate transactions and mergers.

⨖ Drafting persuasive legal memoranda, coverage opinions, and litigation filings that articulate nuanced legal arguments regarding policy interpretation.

⨖ Collaborating with senior partners and cross-functional teams to formulate defense strategies and coverage positions in fast-paced, high-stakes environments.


§ Qualifications

Candidates must demonstrate a history of academic excellence and substantive experience within a sophisticated legal environment.

⨖ Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an ABA-accredited law school with superior academic credentials.

⨖ Active Bar Membership in the state of New York, in good standing.

⨖ Two (2) to Four (4) Years of post-J.D. experience (Class years 2021 through 2023 preferred) specifically within an insurance coverage or complex litigation practice group at a reputable law firm.

⨖ Demonstrated proficiency in analyzing insurance mechanisms and policy structures.

⨖ Exceptional legal research, analytical, and writing capabilities are non-negotiable.


§ Skills

The ideal candidate will possess the following preferential attributes:

⨖ Deep familiarity with the interplay between insurance provisions and M&A transaction agreements.

⨖ Experience navigating the specific nuances of cyber liability and executive protection policies.

⨖ A proven ability to manage multiple workstreams effectively while maintaining meticulous attention to detail.

⨖ Strong interpersonal skills necessary for direct client engagement and collaborative teamwork.
