Job Title: Senior Counsel / Partner-Level Healthcare Regulatory Attorney

Location: Roseland, NJ (Hybrid)

Employment Type: Full-Time

Salary: $180,000 – $250,000 annually, commensurate with experience and qualifications

About the Opportunity

Our client, a prestigious law firm with a growing healthcare practice in Roseland, New Jersey, is seeking a Senior Counsel or Partner-Level Healthcare Regulatory Attorney to join their team. This is a high-impact role for an experienced attorney with deep regulatory expertise and the ability to serve as a subject matter expert across a broad range of healthcare compliance matters. The firm offers a hybrid work arrangement, a clear partnership track, and a collaborative culture.

Day-to-Day Responsibilities

  • Advise clients on complex healthcare regulatory, compliance, and enforcement matters, including risk mitigation strategies.
  • Provide regulatory guidance in connection with healthcare transactions, including mergers, acquisitions, and affiliations.
  • Serve as a trusted advisor to clients on evolving regulatory requirements and enforcement trends.
  • Collaborate with internal teams and external stakeholders to manage legal and compliance risk.
  • Develop and deliver training and guidance to clients and internal teams on regulatory issues.
  • Monitor and interpret changes in healthcare laws and regulations and advise accordingly.
  • Build and maintain client relationships and contribute to practice growth.
  • Mentor junior attorneys and contribute to team development.

Credentials & Qualifications Required

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school required; strong academic credentials essential.
  • Active Bar Admission in New Jersey required; New York bar admission is a plus.
  • 10+ years of relevant healthcare regulatory experience.
  • Prior law firm experience is required.
  • Law school transcripts must be submitted with application.
  • Billable Hour Requirement: The firm maintains a standard expectation of 1,850 billable hours per year (typical for this level of practice).
  • Deep knowledge of the Stark Law, Anti-Kickback Statute, Medicare/Medicaid reimbursement, and corporate practice of medicine doctrines.
  • Experience advising healthcare providers, health systems, or related entities.
  • Experience handling government investigations, audits, or enforcement matters, including interactions with regulatory agencies (e.g., OIG, DOJ, CMS, state authorities).
  • Experience advising on regulatory aspects of healthcare transactions is a plus.
  • Familiarity with healthcare privacy laws (HIPAA and related regulations).
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and business judgment.
  • Excellent communication and client-facing skills.
  • Entrepreneurial mindset with demonstrated ability to build client relationships and contribute to practice growth.
  • Experience as a former Deputy Attorney General (DAG), or in a prosecutorial, board, or advisory/counseling role, is strongly preferred.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Base Salary: $180,000–$250,000 annually, commensurate with experience and qualifications.
  • Merit-Based Rewards: Discretionary year-end bonus, merit increases, and origination credit — performance and client contributions directly impact total compensation.
  • Partnership Track: This role offers a non-equity position with a merit-based path to equity partnership. Advancement is earned through demonstrated excellence, business development, and contributions to the firm's growth.
  • Comprehensive Benefits: Medical, dental, vision, life and disability insurance, 401(k), paid time off, and voluntary programs.
  • Hybrid Work Arrangement: Flexible hybrid schedule combining in-office collaboration with remote work after an initial 90-day period.

Why This Opportunity Is Attractive

This role offers a rare combination of a strong base compensation package (up to $250,000), a merit-based partnership track, and the chance to step into a senior leadership position within a well-established firm that is deliberately growing its healthcare practice. The hybrid work arrangement provides flexibility without sacrificing the collegiality and mentorship opportunities of in-office collaboration. For an attorney with substantial healthcare regulatory experience — particularly one with a background in government or enforcement — this is an opportunity to transition into a client-facing, business-building role with significant autonomy and upside. The firm's focus on healthcare regulatory work at the intersection of transactional, compliance, and enforcement matters means the work will be varied, sophisticated, and highly impactful.
