About Our Client

We are working with Observed Matter. They are on a mission to unlock the key bottleneck in manufacturing; inspection. They're building CT inspection systems for advanced manufacturing from the ground up.

Their manufacturing philosophy is to build/manufacture in-house so the speed of iteration can be as short as possible. Doing this will unleash American industrial might like we have never seen before.

Based out of Austin, TX, they are well-funded and growing rapidly and looking for a Mechanical Engineer to join their team.

The Role

As a Mechanical Engineer, you will design, build, test, and fix CT inspection systems, including the enclosures and surrounding mechanical components. This is an in-person, hands-on role where you will operate shop equipment to turn CAD designs into physical, working machines. It is a high-impact position in a close-knit team where your work directly determines the success of the product.

Qualifications & Skills

Required

  • You have actually built things (not just designed them).
  • You're cracked at CAD design (years experience don't matter, you just need to be cracked)
  • You have experience running a Bridgeport, laser cutter, and other general shop equipment (preferably in a commercial environment - but hardcore tinkerers are welcome too).
  • You have high-agency -- you get things done without being asked. There are no obstacles that can stop you (ie: You've worked in a team where there were minimal directions, only a key goal to achieve).

Nice to have:

  • Ideally you have worked with CMMs (Coordinate Measuring Machines) or manual inspection.
  • Previous exp / background in CT inspection or non-destructive testing systems is also ideal.
  • Ideally you have designed industrial machine enclosures and structural mechanical assemblies.

Timeline:

  • They are hiring for this role in the short term. If you are not able to start for several months, we can touch base, but it won't work out this time.

Note

[visa situation] This role requires US-Working Rights - the company is unable to sponsor visa transfers.
