Position Summary

We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Philanthropy Officer to join our Development Team and play a pivotal role in advancing the mission and vision of the Vancouver Waldorf School through fundraising. The Philanthropy Officer will work in accordance with all school policies and protocols and in line with the Vancouver Waldorf School (VWS) vision, mission, values and guiding principles.

The Philanthropy Officer is hired by, reports to, and is evaluated by the Development Manager as well as the Board appointed Fundraising Committee. The Philanthropy Officer has no direct reports.


Duties and Responsibilities

All faculty and staff of the VWS are expected to provide servant leadership to the school and its mission. In addition to the duties specified below, the Philanthropy Officer will adapt to the needs of the school and assist, as needed, in other operational areas based on their skillset (e.g. tech support, crosswalk or recess duties, school trips etc.). The Philanthropy Officer will also ensure that any tasks assigned to them within the VWS strategic action plan are progressed as planned.

  1. Work with the Fundraising Committee to: Devise comprehensive fundraising strategies aligned with the school's goals and values, ensuring a balance of short-term and long-term initiatives.
  2. Cultivate Donor Relationships: Build and maintain strong relationships with current and potential donors.
  3. Event Planning and Execution: Organize and execute fundraising events that captivate donors and showcase the unique aspects of Waldorf education. Coordinate with staff, volunteers, and external partners to ensure successful events. Liaise with parent committee to organize events that have the potential for fundraising.
  4. Utilize Networking Skills: Leverage personal and professional networks to expand the school's donor base and secure partnerships with individuals, businesses, and organizations.
  5. Stay Informed on Trends: Stay abreast of fundraising trends, best practices, and legal requirements, ensuring the Vancouver Waldorf School remains at the forefront of effective fundraising strategies.


Desired Qualifications and Attributes

The successful candidate will:

  • Be a self-starter that does not need help or reminders to be motivated.
  • Have excellent communication skills: Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to convey the unique purpose of Waldorf education to diverse audiences.
  • Have a proven track record in fundraising.
  • Reliably follow through on initiatives and requests.
  • Be interested in understanding and connection to the Waldorf teaching methods.
  • Be a creative thinker, with the ability to think outside the box.
  • Be a team player with a collaborative mindset to work effectively with diverse teams and stakeholders.
  • Preferably have a bachelor’s degree in a related field such as Nonprofit Management, Business, or Communications.
  • Be proficient with computers and the Microsoft Office suite.



Benefits

Salary range: $60,000 to $70,000

Scheduled Weekly Hours: 40 hours per week (some meetings and events take place outside of regular work hours)

Work format: On-Site
