Role Overview

The Packaging Associate will support AstenJohnson's high-performance manufacturing environment by ensuring finished goods are packaged safely, accurately, and efficiently. Working closely with both the Production and Shipping & Receiving teams, this cross-functional role helps support the safe, efficient, and on-time production, packaging, storage, and shipment of finished goods.

Shift 1A Schedule

• Sunday–Tuesday, 7:00 AM–7:00 PM
• Wednesday, 7:00 AM–1:00 PM

Key Responsibilities

• Supply packaging materials, including spools, to production lines as needed.
• Accurately weigh, label, box, and complete required data entry for finished goods while preparing production lines with necessary packaging materials.
• Transport finished goods safely to warehouse storage locations using a forklift.
• Become forklift certified (if needed) and maintain certification for safe handling and transport of materials.
• Conduct visual inspections to verify product quality and labeling accuracy.
• Set up and fill racks for doff changes.
• Perform spool taping to properly prepare materials for production.
• Follow all AstenJohnson boxing procedures and established packaging protocols.
• Remove waste and used spool boxes from the production floor.
• Store incoming packaging materials, rotate stock, and replenish supplies as needed.
• Maintain a clean, organized work environment in accordance with 5S principles.
• Support inventory cycle counts and audits.
• Assist with loading and unloading inbound and outbound trucks, moving finished goods and internal loads, and supporting the production floor as needed.
• Collaborate closely with Production and Shipping & Receiving as one integrated team.
• Consistently follow all safety procedures and wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
• Perform cross-functional duties as assigned in support of overall plant operations.

Qualifications

Skills & Experience

• Ability to read, write, and follow written and verbal instructions.
• Strong attention to detail and a proactive mindset.
• Positive, team-oriented attitude with strong planning and organizational skills.
• Comfortable working with numbers, sequential tasks, and basic math/algebra.
• Three or more years of forklift experience preferred.
• One or more years of manufacturing experience preferred.
• Familiarity with Lean Sigma concepts or certification is desirable.

Education & Certifications

• High school diploma or equivalent (GED) required.
• Forklift certification or the ability to obtain certification.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to bend, stoop, lift up to 55 pounds daily, and stand or walk for the majority of each 10-plus-hour shift.
• Ability to work safely in an industrial manufacturing environment with warm temperatures, elevated noise levels, and required personal protective equipment (PPE).
