About Alliance Group Services

The Source and Recruit Company has been retained by Alliance Group Services to assist in the recruitment of an experienced HVAC Service Technician for its North Clarendon, Vermont service team. All candidate inquiries and conversations will be handled confidentially.

Alliance Group Services is an established New England mechanical contractor providing HVAC, building automation, mechanical construction, electrical, and related building services. Serving customers throughout Vermont, New Hampshire, and New York, Alliance has built its reputation around technical expertise, responsive service, and long-term customer relationships.

For an experienced HVAC technician, this opportunity offers something increasingly valuable: the ability to work independently in the field while still having the support of a knowledgeable, collaborative team.

The Opportunity

Alliance is seeking an experienced HVAC Service Technician to join its North Clarendon service operation. This is an immediate need created by an opening on the team, and Alliance is looking for a technician who can bring at least three years of hands-on HVAC experience in either residential or commercial environments.

The technician will troubleshoot, maintain, inspect, and repair a broad range of HVAC and mechanical equipment, including mini-splits, boilers, refrigeration systems, oil and propane burner systems, chillers, packaged rooftop units, and related equipment.

The service territory generally extends from Vergennes to Bennington and Granville to Ludlow. A company service vehicle is provided and may be taken home, allowing technicians to frequently travel directly from home to their first job rather than reporting to the North Clarendon office every morning.

This position reports to the Field Service Supervisor who leads a close-knit service department and brings a hands-on, collaborative approach to leadership. His focus is on helping technicians solve problems, sharing technical knowledge, and supporting the team's success.

The current department consists of four technicians plus the supervisor and is expected to grow to six technicians when fully staffed.

The standard schedule is Monday through Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., with regular opportunities for overtime. Technicians also participate in an on-call rotation, typically covering one week approximately every five weeks.

Responsibilities

The HVAC Service Technician will:

  • Diagnose and troubleshoot a variety of HVAC/R and related mechanical system issues.

  • Perform repairs and obtain replacement parts as necessary to return equipment to proper operation.

  • Calibrate and service systems according to manufacturer recommendations and accepted industry practices.

  • Safely perform and document scheduled preventive maintenance and inspections.

  • Service equipment that may include mini-splits, boilers, refrigeration systems, oil and propane burners, chillers, packaged rooftop units, and other HVAC equipment.

  • Clearly communicate equipment conditions, service timelines, recommendations, and resolutions to customers.

  • Document serviced and installed equipment, including make, model, serial number, fuel type, test measurements, and photographs when appropriate.

  • Recognize potential opportunities for equipment upgrades, service agreements, or additional services and communicate those opportunities internally.

  • Maintain appropriate inventory of parts, tools, materials, and safety equipment in the company vehicle.

  • Maintain a clean, organized, and professional work environment and service vehicle.

  • Participate in the rotating on-call schedule and provide responsive service when assigned.

  • Represent Alliance professionally while developing trusted relationships with customers throughout the service territory.

Qualifications

Successful candidates will bring:

  • At least three years of direct HVAC experience in residential or commercial service environments.

  • EPA certification.

  • A Vermont gas license covering natural gas and propane is strongly preferred.

  • NORA oil certification is helpful.

  • Additional credentials, including relevant electrical certifications, are a plus.

  • Strong troubleshooting and practical problem-solving abilities.

  • Effective interpersonal and customer communication skills.

  • The ability to manage time effectively and work independently in the field while contributing to a team-oriented environment.

  • Reliability, follow-through, sound judgment, discretion, and integrity.

  • A valid, unrestricted driver's license and the ability to meet company driving requirements.

  • The ability to lift up to 50 pounds regularly and safely navigate ladders, stairs, scaffolding, and other conditions associated with field service work.

  • Current authorization to work in the United States.

Employment is contingent upon successful completion of required background and motor vehicle checks and a post-offer Human Performance Examination.

Compensation & Benefits

Alliance offers a comprehensive compensation and benefits package designed to support employees both on and off the job.

Highlights include:

  • $30.00–$50.00 per hour, depending on experience and technical competencies.

  • Regular overtime opportunities.

  • Annual bonus opportunity based on established performance and technical competency benchmarks.

  • Company vehicle with fuel, maintenance, and repairs provided; the vehicle may be taken home.

  • Relocation assistance may be available for the right candidate.

  • Three health insurance plan options.

  • Dental and vision insurance.

  • Health Savings Account (HSA) with company contributions.

  • Flexible Spending Account (FSA) and Dependent Care Account options.

  • Company-sponsored $50,000 life insurance policy with additional voluntary coverage available.

  • Short-term disability, long-term disability, hospital indemnity, critical illness, and other voluntary insurance options.

  • Traditional pre-tax and Roth 401(k) options with company matching up to 5%.

  • Generous combined paid time off.

  • Eight paid holidays.

  • Paid parental, jury duty, bereavement, and military leave.

  • Employee referral and retention bonus opportunities.

Why This Opportunity?

This is an opportunity for an experienced technician who enjoys solving problems, working with a variety of equipment, and having the autonomy of a field-based role without sacrificing access to an experienced team.

In return, the company provides competitive compensation, significant benefits, a take-home service vehicle, overtime potential, professional development support, and a supervisor who believes in helping technicians succeed.

Candidates do not need to come from one narrowly defined HVAC background. Strong technicians with either residential or commercial experience are encouraged to apply, particularly those who bring solid fundamentals, curiosity, and the ability to learn additional systems.
