Back-End Engineer (Node.js / TypeScript) | Creative Tech Start-Up – Content & Data Platform

Compensation: €80,000

Location: Fully Remote (within the EU)

We’re looking for a Mid–Senior Back-End Engineer to help design and scale the backbone of a next-generation content and data platform used by global brands and creators.

You’ll join a small, collaborative, remote-first engineering squad where every voice matters, working across 0→1 projects, building new features from the ground up, and taking full ownership of your work from design and testing through to deployment.

In this role, you’ll play a key part in developing APIs, managing data, and ensuring performance, reliability, and seamless integrations across the platform.

We’re not focused on industry background, sector experience is irrelevant. What truly matters is your aptitude, adaptability, and enthusiasm for thriving in a scrappy, fast-changing start-up environment. You’ll bring strong technical expertise in web-focused systems, and a proven track record of owning in-house projects end-to-end and delivering high-quality, scalable software.

• Strong, hands-on backend engineering experience as their primary focus (preferably several years in backend-heavy roles).
• Solid Node.js / JavaScript / TypeScript expertise, with clear evidence of working on production-grade systems.
• Experience with scalable architectures, API design, and good coding practices is definitely a plus.

What You’ll Do

• Design, build, and maintain robust backend services using Node.js and TypeScript.
• Implement and manage PostgreSQL databases, ensuring high performance and data integrity.
• Build and maintain queues (BullMQ or RabbitMQ) for background processing and integrations.
• Containerize and deploy services using Docker and AWS (EC2, S3, Lambda).
• Establish and maintain CI/CD pipelines and enforce security best practices.
• Collaborate closely with Frontend, Product, and Design teams to deliver high-quality, scalable features.
• Own projects end-to-end, delivering maintainable, well-documented, and tested code.

What You’ll Bring

• 4+ years of backend development experience in Node.js and TypeScript.
• Strong experience with PostgreSQL, Docker, CI/CD, and AWS.
• Hands-on experience with queue systems (BullMQ, RabbitMQ) and monitoring tools.
• A strong understanding of backend security and performance optimization.
• Ideally, experience with Elasticsearch or ClickHouse for data-heavy systems.
• Comfortable in a desktop web–focused environment (mobile-only experience isn’t relevant).
• Proven experience working in-house (not agency) for a tech start-up
• MUST have experience working in a small, high-performing team, that is agile, fast-paced and every day is different to the next.
