(Senior) Electronics System Engineer (Smart Contact Lenses)

 

Azalea Vision is a venture-capital-backed startup and spin-off from Imec and Ghent University. 

 

What does Azalea Vision develop?

Azalea Vision is developing smart contact lenses with embedded electronics. A first application implements an artificial iris for patients suffering from iris deficiencies. The system consists of an electronic platform embedded in a removable contact lens, containing several electronic components (ASIC, battery, LCD, antenna…)

The smart contact lens communicates with an external device that also serves as a lens cup holder to disinfect and at the same time charges the lenses. The external device can communicate with a tablet and/or smartphone.

 

What is your impact?

•      You improve the development of the electronic/software part of our product through the different development phases of a clinical device under ISO 13485.

•      You manage and follow-up with our sub-contractors (e.g. the design house) that are involved in electronic/software development. 

•      You will be the electronic/software expert in Azalea.

What is your technical background?

•      You have a PhD or master’s degree in electronics with a passion for both electronics and software.

•      You have a system level overview and can to translate user requirements in design inputs.

•      You like to combine conceptual thinking with hands-on execution in our labs.

•      You have good understanding of basic analog electronics and programming techniques.

•      You have some experience with Python, Electronic design, PCB layout and firmware programming.

•      You combine this with some hands-on experience with electrical measurement equipment (oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, SMU’s, …)

•      You feel comfortable with the dynamic changing environment of a start-up company.

•      You can communicate and follow-up effectively with the design house.

•      You can move things forward and find a good balance between quality and pace of work.

•      Within the medical device field, it is important to document your work, so we need someone who has discipline to do so.

•      In our team, we value an open and transparent way of communication.

•      You have a can-do mentality; you are pro-active and eager to keep on learning.

•      Besides the above, you have good written and verbal English communication skills
