Position Title: McLendon Future Leader – Athletics Communications

BACKGROUND 

This position in Marquette Athletics will have a primary focus in the area of Athletics Communications, assisting with publicity efforts and generation of content for social media use. This individual will also aid the Vice President & Director of Athletics, as well as the executive team members as needed. 


Additionally, this position will have regular, on-going interaction and communication with the Marketing & Fan Engagement team, the Ticket Sales & Service team, as well as members of the various coaching staffs. The ideal candidate will be a self-starter and looking for entry level experience in athletics communications, while also gaining exposure to a variety of departments within Marquette Athletics. 


SUMMARY

This position in Marquette Athletics will have a primary focus in the area of Athletics Communications, assisting with publicity efforts and generation of content for social media use. This individual will also aid the Vice President & Director of Athletics, as well as the executive team members as needed. 


Additionally, this position will have regular, on-going interaction and communication with the Marketing & Fan Engagement team, the Ticket Sales & Service team, as well as members of the various coaching staffs. RESPONSIBILITIES


Academic Support

  • Serve as the primary communications contact for the men’s and women’s tennis teams and women’s swimming team
  • Assist with communications tasks related to the men’s basketball program
  • Assist in the Athletics Department’s social media efforts. Includes content development, graphics and posting
  • Assist with development of content for the Athletics Department’s website (GoMarquette.com)
  • Assist with media-related activity for Marquette’s 17 varsity sports as needed
  • Assist with the development and submission of nominations for institutional, conference and national awards
  • Assist with the preparation and dissemination of news releases and statistical information
  • Assist with generation and posting of social media game day content/highlights
  • Assist Vice President & Director of Athletics, and executive team members, with special projects as requested


QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree required 
  • Self-starter with a strong interest in athletics communications
  • Interest in gaining entry-level experience in sports communications
  • Strong communication skills (written and verbal)
  • Ability to collaborate with multiple teams (Marketing, Ticket Sales, coaching staffs)
  • Interest in social media, content creation, and digital storytelling
  • Photography and video editing experience preferred
