 A human rights and social justice nonprofit is seeking a Part-time Freelance Writer to support its communications team with compelling, mission-driven storytelling. This remote contract role will help translate complex social justice issues, program work, and community impact into clear, engaging content for a broad public audience. This is a Remote, Part-time role.


ORGANIZATION: Human Rights and Social Justice Nonprofit

LOCATION: Remote

POSITION TITLE: Freelance Writer

SCHEDULE: Project-based

DURATION: Need-based

Pay- $45/hr - $55/hr (depending on experience)


Is This Your Dream Job? The ideal candidate is a strong storyteller who is comfortable conducting research and interviews, writing in an institutional voice, and producing high-quality content across multiple formats and platforms.


 Our Ideal Candidate:

  • Demonstrated experience writing narrative-driven content for nonprofits on social justice, economic law, democracy, or human rights.
  • Strong research and interviewing skills
  • Ability to write in an institutional or organizational voice
  • Exceptional attention to detail, including fact-checking and editing
  • Strong time management skills and ability to meet deadlines
  • Professional judgment when handling sensitive information or working with a senior leader



Preferred:

  • Journalism, PR, or an editorial background
  • Familiarity with AP Style
  • Experience ghostwriting for executives, public figures, or organizational leadership


How You Will Spend Your Day:

  • Write longform features, grantee spotlights, blogs, op-eds, reflections, and issue-focused essays for web publication
  • Produce web copy such as event summaries, program descriptions, and staff bios
  • Draft short-form copy for newsletters, social media, and other communications channels
  • Conduct research and interview stakeholders, including community leaders, partners, and staff
  • Collaborate with editors to revise drafts and incorporate feedback
  • Ensure content aligns with the organization’s editorial voice, style, and tone
  • Coordinate with program and communications staff to verify facts and gather information
  • Participate in occasional editorial planning discussions or check-ins
