 A mission-driven arts and culture nonprofit is seeking an experienced and polished Development Associate to support fundraising, grant writing, donor stewardship, development operations, and financial administration. This is a part-time, in-person, temporary role based in New York City.

LOCATION: Financial District, New York City

POSITION TITLE: Development Associate

SCHEDULE: 21-28 hrs/week, 3 days in person, Monday, Wednesday, Thursday  

DURATION: Ongoing

HOURLY RATE: $27/hr - $40/hr DOE


Is This Your Dream Job?  This role is ideal for a seasoned development professional who has experience supporting foundation and government fundraising, writing compelling grant proposals and reports, conducting prospect research, preparing funder presentations, and managing fundraising data. The Development Associate will work closely with development and finance leadership to support institutional giving, donor relations, campaigns, and accurate financial and CRM reporting. 


 Our Ideal Candidate:


  • 4+ years of professional development/fundraising experience, preferably in a nonprofit environment.
  • Demonstrated experience writing successful foundation and government grant proposals and reports.
  • Strong donor acknowledgement and stewardship writing skills.
  • Experience with prospect profiling, funder research, and identifying funding opportunities.
  • Experience preparing PowerPoint decks, funder presentations, and other development materials.
  • Experience supporting or participating in a capital campaign preferred.
  • Advanced proficiency with Salesforce, Raiser’s Edge, or a similar fundraising CRM, including entering grants and opportunities, maintaining records, and running reports.
  • Strong Microsoft Excel skills and experience developing and tracking budgets.
  • Experience with basic accounting functions, including Accounts Payable, deposits, reconciliations, and financial recordkeeping.
  • Experience with QuickBooks preferred.
  • Excellent writing, organizational, analytical, and communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining a high level of accuracy and professionalism.
  • Interest in and commitment to the arts and culture sector.


How You Will Spend Your Day:


Fundraising & Grants

  • Research foundations, government agencies, corporations, and other prospective funders.
  • Draft and support foundation and government grant proposals, reports, letters of inquiry, and other funder communications.
  • Track grant deadlines, submissions, awards, reporting requirements, and funding opportunities.
  • Develop funder profiles and conduct prospect research to support fundraising strategy.
  • Assist with capital campaign activities and materials.
  • Prepare polished PowerPoint presentations, funder decks, and briefing materials.


Donor Relations & Stewardship

  • Draft thoughtful and compelling donor acknowledgement letters and stewardship communications.
  • Process and acknowledge gifts accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Maintain detailed donor records and support donor communications and cultivation activities.
  • Assist with fundraising campaigns, events, and other donor engagement initiatives.


Database & Development Operations

  • Maintain accurate donor, grant, and prospect records in Salesforce, Raiser’s Edge, or similar CRM.
  • Enter and manage grants, opportunities, gifts, and prospect information.
  • Run CRM reports and provide data to support fundraising analysis and reporting.
  • Prepare mailing lists, donor reports, prospect reports, and other development materials.
  • Maintain accurate and organized development files and records.


Finance & Budget Support

  • Assist with development-related budgets, tracking, and financial reporting using Excel.
  • Support Accounts Payable, deposits, reconciliations, and other basic accounting functions.
  • Assist with financial recordkeeping and QuickBooks as needed.
  • Work collaboratively with finance staff to ensure accurate development and financial data.
