We are seeking a mission-driven, community-focused professional to join our team in Chicago as a Temporary Communications Associate. If you have 2+ years of experience and a passion for advocacy, we want to hear from you.

 

The Role at a Glance

  • Organization: Social Justice Nonprofit & Public Policy Law Center
  • Location: Chicago Loop (Hybrid: 2–3 days in-person; Tuesdays required)
  • Schedule: 30–40 hours/week
  • Duration: 2–3 month contract
  • Compensation: $25/hr

 

Your Impact

 In partnership with the Managing Director of Development and External Relations, the Communications Associate will be responsible for planning, creating, and publishing engaging content across social media platforms to increase awareness, engagement, and community support. This role works closely with program and development teams to highlight impact stories, events, and campaigns.

 

How You Will Spend Your Day:

  • Amplifying Advocacy: Managing our presence across LinkedIn, Instagram, Twitter/X, and Bluesky. You’ll create 3–5 dynamic posts per week that highlight media mentions, legislative wins, and mission-critical updates.
  • Visual Storytelling: Using Canva to design accessible, high-impact graphics for our social channels.
  • Community Connection: Curating and formatting our monthly newsletter via Constant Contact, ensuring our supporters stay informed and engaged.
  • Digital Stewardship: Maintaining our website by updating the WordPress site with new reports and news content. Our site was recently revamped, so this will be minimal work.
  • Project Management: Serving as a vital liaison between our team and external partners (graphic designers and print houses) to bring reports and materials to life.

 

Who You Are

  • Experienced: You bring at least 2 years of social media management experience and a portfolio of strong writing and visual storytelling.
  • Tech-Savvy: You are proficient in Canva and familiar with WordPress. Knowledge of Constant Contact.
  • Justice-Oriented: You have a deep commitment to social justice and ideally have experience navigating the unique landscape of nonprofit communications.
  • Agile: You are organized, collaborative, creative, and thrive when managing multiple deadlines in a fast-paced advocacy environment with a high level of attention to detail.
