Job Description:
We Are Seeking a detail-oriented Web Accessibility Assistant to support website accessibility enhancements and ensure compliance with federal accessibility standards. This time-limited contract role focuses on updating and remediating website content while preserving existing design and usability. The position works closely with web management and technical teams to identify, troubleshoot, and resolve accessibility issues across multiple web platforms. This opportunity is ideal for candidates interested in expanding their expertise in web accessibility, user experience design, and accessibility compliance practices within a collaborative technical environment.
Responsibilities:
· Update and remediate website content to meet WCAG 2.1 AA accessibility standards.
· Modify and maintain WordPress websites using established templates while preserving design integrity and usability.
· Identify accessibility issues using evaluation tools and implement corrective solutions.
· Collaborate with technical teams and stakeholders to resolve accessibility and usability challenges.
· Participate in required accessibility training sessions and recurring technical meetings.
· Remediate published PDF documents to ensure accessibility compliance with federal standards.
· Maintain consistent website layout, navigation, and functionality during accessibility updates.
· Communicate technical accessibility concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
· Perform quality assurance reviews to validate accessibility compliance and accuracy of updates.
· Complete assigned development and remediation tasks within established timelines.
Required Skills:
· 1–2 years of experience implementing WCAG 2.1 AA web accessibility standards or demonstrated proficiency in accessibility practices.
· Experience using web accessibility evaluation tools, including WAVE or similar solutions.
· Proficiency working with WordPress and template-based website development tools.
· Understanding of user experience (UX) and interface design principles related to accessibility.
· Strong attention to detail with the ability to identify accessibility and formatting issues.
· Ability to troubleshoot technical and accessibility-related problems effectively.
· Strong written and verbal communication skills.
· Ability to work independently while collaborating within a team environment.
· Experience remediating accessible digital documents such as PDFs (preferred).
· Familiarity with usability standards, accessibility coursework, or interface design practices (preferred).
· Experience working within structured or public-sector environments (preferred).
