Stambaugh Ness (SN) is partnering with TBM Hardwoods (TBM), an industry leader in the manufacturing and delivery of high-quality hardwood lumber and custom mouldings, in their search for a Controller. Ideal candidates are skilled financial stewards, detail and task oriented, and passionate about serving others including customers and teammates. Prior industry experience in manufacturing and distribution a plus.

POSITION DETAILS 


Duties/Responsibilities:

Strategic Financial Oversight

  • Oversee the daily processing of sales orders, ensuring alignment with financial goals and strategic objectives.
  • Monitor open purchase orders and weekly invoice summaries to inform strategic decision-making and optimize financial performance.
  • Ensure accurate recording of daily transactions, lead month-end closing processes, present financial statements with strategic insights, provide operations expense workbooks to the Operations Manager, and publish quarterly financial statements to the bank for compliance and transparency.
  • Direct the timely entry and payment of invoices to maintain strong vendor relationships and ensure operational continuity.
  • Manage the reconciliation of lumber vendor invoices, ensuring accuracy and strategic alignment with procurement goals.

Financial & Accounting Oversight

  • Foster a collaborative and high-performance work environment to achieve strategic objectives.
  • Provide operational expertise to identify trends and opportunities for optimizing cash flow and financial performance.
  • Leverage experience in manufacturing and distribution environments to enhance operational efficiency and strategic planning.
  • Utilize ABC accounting, cost tracking/allocation, and general inventory management to optimize financial performance and resource allocation.
  • Apply strong negotiation and sourcing skills for IT services, insurances, and other critical resources to ensure cost-effective and strategic procurement.
  • Maintain solid IT and systems knowledge, including network administration, ERP, and tools that drive efficiencies throughout the operation.
  • Approve high-value ACH transactions, ensuring compliance with financial policies and strategic objectives.
  • Review daily balances to maintain accurate financial status and support strategic planning.

Corporate Tax Strategy

  • Oversee corporate tax filings and payments, ensuring compliance and strategic tax planning.
  • Manage sales tax filings to support accurate tax reporting and strategic financial planning.
  • Supervise highway tax filings to meet transportation-related tax obligations strategically.

Leadership and HR Management

  • Demonstrate solid leadership skills through a servant leadership approach, leading by example and actively engaging in team efforts when needed.
  • Manage HR policies and the company handbook, ensuring reasonableness, fairness, and compliance with regulations.

Legal and Contract Leadership

  • Ensure legal compliance through strategic management of business licenses, annual reports, and contract reviews.
  • Oversee the management of employee benefits and insurance plans, ensuring strategic alignment with company goals.

  • Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines
  • Microsoft Office proficiency required.
  • ERP experience preferred.


Education and Experience:

  • Five years or more of accounting experience preferred.
  • Experience in manufacturing accounting preferred but not required.
  • Prior distribution experience a plus.
