Regulatory Compliance Officer – Kansas City, MO

Compensation Range

$90,000 - $125,000 + Benefits & Long-Term Incentive

About the Role

Our client is a life insurance underwriter based in the Kansas City area has recently gone through some M&A activity with a new parent organization and in this process has identified a need in the compliance team over the affiliated broker-dealer. The current compliance / BD team consists of 7, and the work is primarily in trade execution and suitability review, but the organization believes they have a need for someone in more of an oversight role and who can lead the regulatory process for the company.

The organization operates as a life insurance company, but also has a broker-dealer for product offerings in the whole & universal space. The broker-dealer primarily operates as an introducing BD, offering mutual funds related to the investment component of life products. As mentioned above, there is currently a team in place that can handle the current “work load” of compliance, so we are seeking someone that can offer more in terms of understanding of regulations, WSP and working with various regulators in reviews. The BD and team is small enough that we would not characterize this as a CCO role, but some aspects of it will look like that. We can be flexible in the title.

Basic Duties

·        Oversee the functional compliance team of 7

·        Provide regular review and in conjunction with the senior leadership team, make adjustments to both WSP and general procedures as needed.

·        Work with both the company senior management team and alongside counterparts within the parent company.

·        Provide general insight to the insurance side of the organization as it relates to FINRA and broker-dealer aspects

Ideal Background

·        Desired FINRA exams including the series 24 or equivalent.

·        5-7+ years in a broker-dealer or other FINRA / SEC regulated entity in a compliance role

·        Some experience managing a small team is preferred, but someone that has provided mentorship or contributed to staff development in similar ways is ideal as well.

·        Prior life insurance exp. Is preferred.
