Overview
Lupton Partners is recruiting on behalf of our client—a well-established mortgage lender with more than 40 years of operational history and the backing of a parent company with over a century in business. We're seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Mortgage Underwriter with experience in both conventional and government loan programs (FHA, VA, USDA). This is a full-time, on-site role based in a highly collaborative office environment featuring secure paid parking, an onsite gym, a gourmet kitchen, and close proximity to great dining options.

Key Responsibilities

Review Loan Applications: Analyze mortgage loan applications for completeness, accuracy, and alignment with conventional and government program guidelines.

Conduct Financial Assessments: Evaluate borrowers’ income, assets, employment, credit history, and other financial documents to assess creditworthiness.

Assess Property Appraisals: Review property valuations to ensure collateral meets loan and regulatory standards.

Calculate Key Metrics: Compute debt-to-income (DTI) and loan-to-value (LTV) ratios and assess borrower eligibility based on financial thresholds.

Collaborate with Loan Team: Communicate with processors, loan officers, and other stakeholders to clarify file information and resolve discrepancies.

Issue Decisions: Render underwriting decisions—approvals, suspensions, or denials—with clear documentation and reasoning.

Stay Informed: Keep up to date with mortgage regulations, underwriting guidelines, and investor requirements.

Ensure Compliance: Adhere to internal policies and external regulatory standards in all underwriting decisions and documentation.
Qualifications

Experience: Minimum 3–5 years of mortgage underwriting experience, including conventional and government-backed loans (FHA, VA, USDA).

Education: Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Business Administration, or a related field preferred.

Technical Proficiency: Familiarity with DU, LP, and other automated underwriting systems; adept in mortgage LOS platforms and tools.

Regulatory Knowledge: Strong understanding of current underwriting guidelines and federal lending regulations.

Analytical Skills: High level of attention to detail with strong analytical and decision-making abilities.

Communication: Effective written and verbal communication skills; able to provide concise and accurate documentation.

Certifications: Underwriting certifications (NAMU, NAMP, etc.) preferred but not required.

Ethics: Demonstrated ability to handle sensitive borrower data with integrity and confidentiality.
