Salary:

About the company:

Are you passionate about dogs and want the very best for them, AND want to revolutionize a $100 billion dollar industry at the same time? If you're an agency-side person looking to break into client-side, this could be an especially intriguing role.

Our client is the #1 fastest-growing pet health service company in the US, born from a mission to change the landscape of pet health by radically improving the $100 billion pet food market. They replace bulk bags of highly-processed pellets with a personalized subscription service of healthy, freshly-made dog food, balanced by top veterinary nutritionists, directly to customers’ doors. Their ultimate goal is to create innovative, honest, and delightful experiences across all aspects of pet care.

To date, they’ve delivered hundreds of millions of meals nationwide, and their company has raised over $150M in funding (and, according to a Google search, currently has a multi $B valuation!) to help them build a company as healthy as the dogs they serve. You’ll be instrumental in helping provide peace of mind to their human customers and much-needed change to the way people feed and care for their beloved pets.

They’re category-breakers, in that instead of looking to see what their competitors are doing, they are squarely focused on creating best-in-class, perhaps-never-been-done- before design that sets a new standard of what can be done through design. Their designers are highly strategic - how can we simplify this flow and maximize sign ups? How can we most efficiently take care of edge cases?

About their culture:

Both culture and craft are hugely important to them, and they’re looking for someone likeminded: entrepreneurial, highly collaborative, open to experimentation, quick on their feet, constantly thinking about their customer (dogs + human) needs at every turn, and who upholds Craft with a capital C in all that they do.

Their design maturity is high, their systems are in place, and the company has grown from 700 to 900 people in just the last year, with a 10 person Design team - 3 of them we've placed there, and they love it there and are doing very well!

We’ve known their VP of Design for many years, and getting to work with him - as your direct manager, no less - is a huge growth opportunity for any designer. He is hands-down one of the most beloved and talented design leaders we’ve had the pleasure of knowing: he’s compassionate, kind, fosters awesome collaboration, will challenge you (in a good way), is a huge purveyor of craft, and knows how to expertly support and guide each individual member of his team. He's also a fine artist on the side, so he walks the walk. We know many designers who have reported into him and they are all big, big fans!

They have a hybrid onsite work model of 4x/week in the office. Trust us; you'll WANT to go into the office! They just moved into a beautiful penthouse office in a landmark building in downtown NYC, with dogs abound. There's always a few furry friends roaming around and charming everyone they meet, and many desks have a dog bed under them.

Needless to say, the people who work there are big, big animal lovers. While you don't have to be a pet owner yourself, you love animals and enjoy being around dogs, and like to give ear scritches to a furry friend when they come to visit you!

About the role:

There is an immediate need for a seasoned, fulltime Senior Product Designer II (ie, the highest end of Senior), who's got a strong sense of storytelling through Design. You'll work on both landing pages and internal pages, and you should possess a strong sense of Visual UI design, excellent visual craft, and a keen sense for how a journey all ties together across a scalable system (web, responsive mobile, etc). A big plus would be motion skills in Figma or AfterFX to most delightfully tell the company's story.

You’ll be on their Acquisition / Growth team, but it's not a "Growth" role per se - your areas are all mission-critical parts of the user experience that are key in new user satisfaction and overall company growth.

You’ll be primarily doing design and strategy on their logged-out pages (ie, landing pages, Our Story, customer acquisition flows, etc), all the while thinking how to weave a consistent, updated story about their origin and their offerings to make it most impactful for users, as well as most searchable by AEO and SEO.

This is for someone with strong Visual UI acumen who can help elevate their look + feel, as well as a solid UX thinker who can think through some complex flows.

While some experience in Brand is a plus, this is not a Brand Designer role per se; there's interaction and UX/UI work to be done, too.

You're especially savvy at working closely with front end Eng, and knowing how to launch things with Eng effectively.

While you might not be an expert in UX Research, you’ve had exposure to it, perhaps even co-run sessions, but at minimum, you’ve spoken to users directly to get feedback.

You have metrics and success stories to most effectively tell the story of your work, and its impact on users and the company.

The ideal candidate has:

  • 5-9+ years experience in product design, preferably including some experience in a scrappy, fast-paced startup environment
  • Landing pages, website design, responsive mobile design, systems design, and Design Systems experience
  • A/B testing / experimentation experience
  • Some exposure / skill with Content Design from a visual design perspective, and understand how content hierarchy, storytelling, and brand voice can impact users’ buying decisions
  • Ability to use AI tools in your design process (the company is wholly embracing this!)
  • A keen eye for craft, and your portfolio exemplifies this
  • Is a full stack, hands-on designer, savvy with both UI and UX
  • Ability to operate in a scientific method, and have experience making data-driven design decisions
  • Awareness of the impact of every pixel and word on the screen while also being able to zoom out and think strategically and holistically
  • A strong entrepreneurial drive and bias towards action
  • Ability to function independently and in a team environment with excellent collaboration skills, expert knowledge, and a low ego
  • Skills in Figma and excited to learn and adopt the latest design tools, including AI
  • You love animals, and would thrive in a lively, dog-friendly office!

Bonus points if you have experience with:

  • B2C subscription services that combine digital experiences with analog delivery
  • Motion design skills in AfterFX and/or Figma
  • Products that can be highly personalized with complex flows (could be complex ecommerce, etc)
  • Growth, especially via customer acquisition quizzes
