Senior Backend Engineer – Generative AI Integrations

We’re seeking a Senior Backend Engineer to help build and scale our client's Generative AI-powered experiences into a high-impact, open-source desktop product used by millions worldwide. This role is ideal for engineers who thrive in complex systems and are passionate about ethical, privacy-first AI development.

What You’ll Do:

• Design and build robust backend services to support AI-driven user features
• Integrate with LLM providers, manage prompts and API orchestration for generative AI tasks
• Collaborate closely with front-end developers, designers, and AI researchers to deliver scalable features
• Contribute to architectural improvements in a large, mature codebase
• Ensure high standards for performance, reliability, and data privacy
• Participate in code reviews, documentation, and knowledge-sharing within a distributed team

What We’re Looking For:

• Strong programming skills in Python and familiarity with JavaScript (for API interfacing or support tooling)
• Direct experience integrating large language models (LLMs) via APIs or SDKs
• Ability to work across multiple projects, manage priorities, and shift context effectively
• Clear, concise communication in both async written and verbal formats
• A proactive mindset — you're comfortable improving systems as you encounter them
• A strong interest in building privacy-preserving AI experiences

Bonus Points:

• Experience contributing to open-source projects
• Familiarity with desktop application development or cross-platform service integration
• Knowledge of data security practices in user-facing products
