About Us

MEOPAR is a not-for-profit network funded by the Strategic Science Fund (SSF) that is focused on supporting leading-edge research and connecting top researchers across Canada with highly qualified personnel, partners, and communities. Together, our mission is to address the problems and opportunities of the changing marine environment. MEOPAR funds leading-edge research, overcomes barriers to collaborative research, and helps to train the next generation of marine professionals.

Now, we’re collaborating with JPI Oceans and JPI Climate on a high-impact Rapid Response Action to produce an authoritative, science-based review of the Atlantic Meridional Overturning Circulation (AMOC), a critical driver of global climate and marine systems.

We’re seeking a Research Associate to play a key role in this international initiative.

Overview of the Role

As Research Associate – AMOC, you’ll be part of the core writing and research team responsible for assessing and synthesizing the current state of AMOC science and its implications for climate, society, and policy. You’ll lead research activities, coordinate project outputs, and help communicate findings in accessible, actionable ways to inform decision-makers across sectors.

This is a rare opportunity to contribute directly to a global research initiative with real-world policy impact. You’ll thrive if you enjoy diving into complex scientific literature, working with interdisciplinary teams, and translating evidence into meaningful insights.

Your areas of responsibility will include, but are not limited to:

  • Lead drafting, writing, and editing of a global scientific review on AMOC trends, risks, and tipping points.
  • Analyze observational data, model simulations, and literature to support evidence-based recommendations.
  • Collaborate with international researchers, institutions, and partner organizations.
  • Present findings and represent the project at national and international events.
  • Coordinate knowledge mobilization activities, workshops, and stakeholder engagement.
  • Develop visual tools and data presentations that make science accessible.
  • Manage project timelines, deliverables, and budgets in collaboration with the project team.

Ideal Candidate

  • A PhD in Oceanography, Climate Science, Environmental Science, Public Policy, or a related field (Social scientists are also encouraged to apply).
  • Strong skills in data analysis, statistical methods, and climate/oceanographic modeling.
  • Proven experience in independent and collaborative research.
  • Exceptional writing and communication skills for both scientific and policy audiences.
  • Experience managing complex research projects and meeting deadlines.
  • A collaborative mindset and ability to work in a dynamic, international research setting.
  • Bilingualism highly desirable, fluent in spoken and written French and English.

Why Join Us?

  • Contribute to having a positive impact on Canada’s marine environment
