The Position:
The Construction Project Manager participates in project planning and directs and coordinates project execution for renovation and new construction projects on-campus, ensuring compliance with university policies, budgets, schedules, safety regulations, and quality standards. The Construction Project Manager manages subcontractors, creates and tracks budgets and expenditures, and coordinates communication and collaboration between university stakeholders and project partners. This position is a key point of contact between Taylor stakeholders and its contracted construction partners and guides each project to successful completion on-time, on-budget, and on-mission.
Responsibilities:
This position is primarily responsible to:
- Testify to personal experience of salvation in Jesus Christ, affirm belief in the University’s Statement of Faith, abide by and practice our Life Together Covenant, and both personally agree with and support the Foundational Documents of Taylor University
Project Planning and Management
- Together with Project Owners and Sponsors, prepare project budgets and solicit estimates
- Develop and maintain construction documentation such as schedules, specifications, etc
- Provide project reporting to relevant stakeholders on a regular basis
- Monitor and oversee project progress, ensuring alignment with project goals and requirements
- Along with the Senior Director of Construction Services, provide data to recommend changes to the work, scope, budget, and schedule of projects
Collaboration and Communication
- Work closely with engineers, architects, contractors, and other project stakeholders
- Choose subcontractors and delegate responsibilities appropriately
- Effectively explain contracts, drawings, and technical matters to team members and stakeholders
- Maintain open communication channels with all project stakeholders, including regular reporting both in writing and in person
Contract and Vendor Management
- Negotiate and track change orders and contracts, together with the Senior Director of Construction Services
- Manage subcontractors and vendors to ensure adherence to scope, schedule, and budget
- Ensure subcontractor compliance with Taylor’s Life Together Covenant Guidelines for Contractors
Quality Control and Stakeholder Relations
- Ensure high-quality project execution
- Maintain internal stakeholder satisfaction by addressing concerns and ensuring project expectations are met
- Communicate clearly, effectively, and regularly with all stakeholders
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree or associate’s degree, required
- 5 years of experience as a commercial construction Project Manager, or related field, required
- Possession of a valid State Driver’s License, a good driving history, and reliable transportation, required
- Strong project management and organizational skills
- Ability to organize and manage multiple projects simultaneously
- Ability to read and understand all types of construction drawings and documentation
- Effective communication and negotiation abilities
- Ability to delegate tasks efficiently and manage a team
- Analytical and problem-solving skills
- Knowledge of safety regulations and legal compliance in construction
- Proficiency in budgeting, scheduling, and cost control, especially in Excel
- Attention to detail and ability to ensure quality control
- Experience using Procore software preferred
