The Position:

The Product Design Engineer will play a critical role in driving innovation, performance differentiation, and commercialization of advanced magnetic components, assemblies, and systems for Master Magnetics. This role requires a combination of technical expertise, market awareness, and cross-functional collaboration to address emerging customer needs, develop novel concepts, and bring high-quality products to market efficiently. The successful candidate will contribute to strategic initiatives by leveraging industry insights, conducting rigorous engineering analyses, and supporting business development efforts.


Responsibilities:

Market Analysis:

  • Review industry and academic research to track emerging magnet technologies, materials, and applications.
  • Analyze technical specifications of competitor products to identify performance gaps and opportunities for differentiation.
  • Coordinate with product management to translate market requirements into actionable engineering initiatives.

Idea Generation:

  • Brainstorm innovative concepts for new magnetic components, assemblies, and systems that address unmet customer needs.
  • Work closely with cross-functional teams (sales, marketing, supply chain) to align technical ideas with market feedback.
  • Utilize customer data, field reports, and internal R&D findings to propose engineering solutions that enhance functionality, reliability, and cost-effectiveness.

Concept Development:

  • Develop product specifications, 3D models, and detailed engineering drawings that reflect optimal magnetic properties, material selection, and manufacturability.
  • Collaborate with suppliers and internal teams to refine prototypes, ensuring quality, performance, and adherence to budget and timeline constraints.
  • Conduct simulations, tolerance analyses, and material tests to validate design choices and improve product robustness.

Commercialization:

  • Support the transition from prototype to production by working with manufacturing, operations, and quality teams.
  • Create technical documentation, guidelines, and test protocols to ensure consistent product quality and reliability throughout the supply chain.
  • Offer technical support during product launch, assisting sales and marketing with technical training materials, product specifications, and customer-facing documentation.

Business Development:

  • Partner with business development teams to present technical capabilities to prospective clients and partners.
  • Attend industry events and technical conferences to remain informed of emerging trends and to network with potential collaborators and suppliers.
  • Identify and evaluate potential partnerships with research institutions, material suppliers, and component manufacturers to enhance product offerings and reduce costs.

Product Forecasting:

  • Collaborate with product management and operations to provide technical insights that inform demand forecasting and capacity planning.
  • Use engineering data (e.g., material availability, production cycle times, yield rates) to advise on lead times, inventory levels, and product life cycles.
  • Support strategic decision-making by helping predict the long-term technical viability of product lines and potential replacement or enhancement cycles.


Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, or a related field; advanced degree a plus.
  • 5+ years of experience in product development, engineering design, or R&D, with a focus on magnetics or related electromechanical products.
  • Strong understanding of magnetic materials, manufacturing processes, and performance testing methodologies.
  • Proficiency in CAD software, simulation tools (e.g., FEA for magnetic fields), and data analysis.
  • Proven ability to translate market requirements into tangible engineering solutions.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, and the ability to collaborate across functions.
  • Detail-oriented, curious, and driven by continuous improvement and innovation.
