GreenieRe is seeking a highly skilled and versatile Program Underwriter/Manager to manage and oversee the underwriting of insurance programs handled by our MGA partners. This role requires a deep understanding of insurance underwriting, risk management, and program management, along with the ability to maintain strong relationships with MGAs. The successful candidate will ensure that our programs are underwritten profitably while aligning with GreenieRe’s risk appetite and strategic objectives, as well as its non-profit mission.

Key Responsibilities:

• Program Management: Oversee and manage the underwriting of insurance programs handled by MGA partners, ensuring alignment with GreenieRe’s risk appetite, financial goals, and mission of supporting decarbonization projects.
• Risk Assessment: Evaluate and approve the overall risk associated with each program. Review and provide input on underwriting guidelines, pricing strategies, and risk selection criteria developed by the MGAs.
• Capacity Allocation: Determine and manage the capacity provided to each MGA program. Monitor and adjust capacity levels as necessary based on program performance and strategic considerations.
• Performance Monitoring: Track and analyze program performance metrics, including premium volume, loss ratios, and profitability. Identify trends and areas for improvement to optimize program outcomes in line with GreenieRe’s goals.
• Compliance and Oversight: Working in collaboration with the captive manager, Ensure that MGA partners adhere to GreenieRe’s underwriting standards, regulatory requirements, and mission-driven objectives. Conduct regular audits and reviews to maintain compliance and ensure alignment with decarbonization goals.
• Program Structuring: Collaborate with MGAs to structure insurance programs, including setting coverage limits, determining reinsurance needs, and ensuring the financial and environmental viability of the program.
• Relationship Management: Serve as the primary point of contact for MGA partners. Maintain strong relationships and facilitate effective communication between the MGAs and internal teams, including actuarial, finance, and claims.
• Business Development: Identify and develop new business opportunities by engaging with MGAs, reinsurers, and other partners in the insurance industry. Act as an evangelist for GreenieRe’s mission and services, driving growth and expansion.
• Renewal Management: Lead the renewal process for each program, reviewing past performance, negotiating terms, and recommending adjustments to program structure, pricing, and capacity.
• Market and Industry Analysis: Stay informed about market trends, competitor activities, and regulatory changes, particularly those related to climate and decarbonization projects. Provide insights and recommendations to senior management based on market intelligence.

Qualifications:

• Education: Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Risk Management, or a related field. A professional insurance designation (e.g., CPCU, ARM) is preferred.
• Experience: Minimum of 7 years of underwriting experience in the insurance industry, with a focus on program underwriting or managing MGA relationships. Experience in reinsurance is a plus.
• Technical Skills: Strong understanding of underwriting principles, risk assessment, insurance program management, and the unique considerations of decarbonization projects. Proficient in analyzing data and using underwriting software.
• Analytical Skills: Ability to assess complex risks, particularly in the context of innovative insurance solutions for climate projects, and make sound underwriting decisions. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills are essential.
• Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to effectively interact with internal teams and external partners, including MGAs and reinsurers.
• Relationship Building: Proven ability to build and maintain strong relationships with MGA partners and other stakeholders. Experience in business development is highly valued.
• Attention to Detail: High level of attention to detail and accuracy in underwriting decisions and documentation.
• Strategic Thinking: Ability to align underwriting decisions with GreenieRe’s mission, strategic objectives, and profitability goals. Understanding of the insurance market’s role in supporting decarbonization and climate resilience.
