The British Red Cross exists to mobilise the power of humanity so individuals and communities can prepare for, respond and recover from crises. Their mission is to ensure that everyone gets the help they need in a crisis.
Their history spans over 150 years, and whilst proud of their heritage, their focus remains firmly on the present and the future. As part of this commitment they are recruiting for a pivotal role, the Director of Health and Care, responsible for overseeing services that support people across the UK. This position will play a strategic role within the leadership team, working closely with frontline teams across the UK and senior leaders to shape health and care services and ensure the organisation is delivering effectively on its mission.
The Health and Care team are the largest service at British Red Cross, comprising ~1,000 staff, and providing support to people in crisis across the four nations. As lead Director for the function, you will be instrumental in shaping the future delivery of the British Red Cross’ service portfolio, proactively co-designing new offers and new ways of working with colleagues, as part of a cross-functional approach to service design and delivery. A strong strategic focus is a critical characteristic of this role, but there will be operational delivery aspects to be overseen too, including supporting communities at times of local emergency and impactful events. The British Red Cross’ new strategy creates the opportunity to develop a more integrated and focused approach to local needs – addressing prevention and access to health and social care in equal measure.
As a member of the Strategic Leadership Team – a cross-directorate collective of directors – with corporate responsibility for delivering and developing the charity’s vision and mission you will have influence at the highest echelons of the organisation.
A commitment to creating a positive working environment where equality and diversity are well managed and dignity at work is upheld will be a key feature of your leadership style.
The British Red Cross are committed to providing equal opportunities for everyone regardless of their background. They acknowledge that people from certain backgrounds are under-represented within the third sector and are committed to doing what they can to correct this. They are particularly keen to receive applications from people of colour; people with disabilities; people who identify as being LGTBQIA; people who have a mental health condition; and people who identify as working class now or in the past.
