The Fitzwilliam Museum is one of the world’s great university museums: a Cambridge landmark and a global centre for art, culture and conservation. Founded “for the increase of learning”, it is reimagining what a university museum can be: open to all, rooted in the East of England, and reaching audiences worldwide.
This is a defining moment to join its governing Syndicate and help shape a “Fitz for the Future”: inclusive, entrepreneurial and academically ambitious. Syndics act as trusted partners to the Director and leadership team, offering strategic counsel and advocacy as the Museum pursues growth, sustainability and innovation.
We are seeking leaders of standing and imagination from business, finance, public service and the cultural or creative industries who combine strategic vision, sound judgement and a deep understanding of how culture connects people and ideas. Expertise in areas such as Strategic Planning, Public Engagement, Philanthropy, Finance, Museum Practice or Science will be particularly valued.
The University actively supports equality, diversity and inclusion and encourages applications from all sections of society. We particularly encourage applications from people who are currently underrepresented on our Syndicate, including people from the global majority.
