The Position:

Summit Search Group has been retained by the Southeast Events Centre on the recruitment of their newest Controller. The Southeast Event Centre is a new and exciting destination for gatherings, performances, and community events in Steinbach, Manitoba. With a vision to gather, play, and grow, the Centre is less than six months into operations and continues to develop its culture, guiding principles, and business processes. As a startup organization, they are looking for team members who thrive in dynamic environments, embrace building from the ground up, and are excited to put their stamp on the future of the Centre.

The Controller will serve as a key member of the senior management team, reporting directly to the General Manager. This role is central to shaping the financial, administrative, and operational backbone of the Centre. The Controller will be responsible for building and leading accounting processes, establishing reporting structures, working closely with auditors, and supporting department leaders with financial guidance. In addition to financial management, the Controller will oversee guest services, providing leadership in service delivery and ensuring alignment with organizational goals.

Key Responsibilities:

• Establish and manage accounting processes, internal controls, and management systems to ensure accurate and timely financial reporting.
• Oversee the annual audit process and maintain compliance with internal and external financial requirements.
• Develop and implement internal reporting structures, including daily and monthly reporting for the board, management, and department heads.
• Collaborate with department leaders to set budgets, monitor financial performance, and hold teams accountable for results.
• Provide financial leadership, analysis, and direction in partnership with the General Manager to guide business strategy and decision-making.
• Identify and support grant opportunities by assisting with applications and ensuring financial reporting requirements are met.
• Oversee guest services operations, ensuring service delivery aligns with organizational standards while supporting administrative processes.

Qualifications:

• Post-Secondary Education in Business, Commerce, Accounting or Finance; CPA strongly preferred.
• Demonstrated success in establishing financial processes, reporting systems, and internal controls.
• Experience managing audits, budgets (ideally $3M+), and financial compliance.
• Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills to collaborate across departments, work with the board, and guide staff.
• Ability to thrive in a startup environment, building processes from the ground up, adapting to change, and shaping organizational direction.
