Role: Senior Microsoft 365 Copilot & Purview Architect
Location: Remote (US‑based) with regular travel to Sacramento, CA
Type: Contract to Hire: 6–12+ month program
Overview
Our client is a Microsoft‑centric consulting firm helping the State of California rapidly deploy Microsoft 365 Copilot across multiple agencies as part of a multi‑year modernization program. This role is the senior architect owning Copilot and Purview design and rollout across large departments (e.g., health, transportation, DMV) on accelerated timelines.
What You’ll Do
- Design and implement Microsoft 365 Copilot for business productivity (initially Teams and Outlook, then SharePoint/OneDrive) for thousands of users.
- Design and configure Microsoft Purview (sensitivity labels, DLP, classification, retention) to protect state data.
- Run security/readiness assessments and define what can be safely accelerated vs. deferred.
- Lead customer workshops with state IT and business leaders; shape adoption plans and explain AI/security trade‑offs.
- Support fast, phased rollouts (MVP first, ~85% functionality, then deeper hardening) and feed learnings into repeatable Copilot offering.
- Act as a senior practice member and go‑to architect for future Copilot/Purview engagements.
What We’re Looking For
- 7+ years with Microsoft 365 in enterprise or consulting (Exchange Online, Teams, SharePoint, OneDrive, identity/security basics).
- Proven, hands‑on design and deployment of Microsoft 365 Copilot for business productivity at thousands‑of‑users scale.
- Strong Microsoft Purview experience: data classification, sensitivity labels, DLP, retention, and at least one sizeable rollout.
- Confident workshop and stakeholder leader; able to drive decisions with CIOs, security, and business teams.
- Consulting‑grade communication; comfortable working under compressed, non‑traditional rollout timelines.
- US work eligibility (citizenship preferred due to health/PII context) and willingness to travel periodically to Sacramento.
Nice to Have
- US state/local government or other regulated‑industry experience.
- Exposure to other Copilot products (Copilot Studio, GitHub Copilot) and the broader Microsoft AI ecosystem.
- Experience working alongside formal change‑management teams.
- Background in enterprise architecture in Microsoft‑centric environments.
